Sounds doable... Look really closely at bolts on mounts, cleanness of aluminum block, anything to indicate the engine has been out of the car!!
Also I would check the block to see if it has your VIN on it or any other numbers/dates on parts to indicate it is the original block.

All under warranty.

What will they do? What will I do? Hmmmmmmmmmmm....

I just... I'm lost.

Should I be searching for a GM rep? Prolly a waste of time.

Bubba, I'd be searching for a new shop to work on the Vette.

I think they've done that, hence the questions at 0630. They didn't even want to wait for me to get there. I told them I could get there almost as quick as a fax. That way, they could have copies of EVERYTHING ASAP.

It's not Carmax that did it. They financed the car and I did buy it from their lot. They have done few 'light' repairs. The tech work was always sublet. The company that was sublet is the one I haven't named.

there is also a Modesto GM dealership involved (that should narrow it down)--

The first sublet company is the one I provided documentation for. Carmax has been stellar with their warranty provisions. They have NOT been doing the work themselves.

I have contacted a GM rep. They are supposedly "looking into it"

Sometimes they are a trial of patience. I have had many NEW Corvettes for the past 35 years and never had as much trouble as I have had with this 2001, but then I have never kept one over 5 years. Most of my problems hit around year 7 & 8 - about 32,000 miles. I have 47,000 miles currently (only about 7,000 miles on the new engine replaced under warranty 2 years ago). I drive the car every day, but never hard - never even had it over 70mph but once.

Here is a list of SOME of the warranty work the past 10 years (does not show a few items for some reason), but over $16,000 in parts and labor covered - GMPP was money well spent!

The starter jammed just turning the engine over in the garage and it broke the block - don't think driving fast would help that!

That sucks. GM does that sometimes--just puts out junk. I have no idea how, since the parts that break all come from different countries and manufacturers. My WS6 did that. Every week something new. Sometimes it would die randomly on the highway (GM built it poorly stripping out a ground-screw), sometimes the idle rpm would rev to 2K and hang (bad IAC), sometimes the TC would come on randomly (bad TPS), sometimes it would go clunk clunk clunk or whine whine whine (new set of axles, 2 sets of wheel-bearings, new pinion bearing), or it will ease out into the intersection all by itself until I ground the gears into neutral (new clutch hydraulics needed) and sometimes it did just fine--for a week or two.

I traded it for a 4 cylinder automatic and haven't missed it one darn bit. The AC crapping out was the last straw. Made horrid noise, then blew warm air. Screw that.

The point is, sometimes with a GM it all just goes wrong. I think other manufacturers do it, but I have not heard of it as much from Ford. Sometimes dodge. Either way, with a GM, either it runs forever (my 95 TA ran to 170K when I sold it, only the heater-core went out and SOMEHOW the last owner before me blew the tq converter up and snapped an axle...rhmmmm...), or it is a total POS (my 01 WS6 that I bought from a dealership, called the owner (older sounding guy from TX), who used it as a DD for is 40 mile round-trip commute to work and back.).

Either way, sell this one, buy another one, and hope for the best. Noone else makes a car that will do what a 'vette will for the same price. Sometimes you just have to play musical-cars with GM, but if you get a good one, you are G2G!
