Default Tracking- Oil

So I was just reading through the owners manual after changing my oil...looking for the instructions on how to reset the oil life meter...when I stumbled upon a spot that said when racing or other competitive driving, add one quart of oil extra so the oil reads above the hash marks on the dipstick.
Thought this may come in useful to some others out there as well.

It also states to take out the extra quart when done racing or driving competively.

Personally the only time I drive the car is when I go to hill country and open her up. If I'm not gonna go fast, I just drive something else.
Guess I wont be needing to take out the extra quart.

I think they are trying to compensate for the wet sump and keeping the motor wet. Of course the dry sump with the LS7 didnt work too effectively the first 3 yrs either.

An extra quart is unnecessary for your application. The main concern is continous high G cornering combined with sustained high RPMs on a road race circuit when the extra quart becomes a neccesity. If you drive in such a manner on public roads that requires you to use an extra quart you will most likely kill yourself or someone else.

Yeah, hopefully you dont kill yourself either. Of course you could look into getting a hybrid if safety and being PC is a real concern.

Not being PC. The only need to drive with an extra quart is when continuously driving the car at its limits for sustained periods of time. If this was done on public roads it would surely lead to a loss of control, b/c of irregularities in road surface and conditions that are much more controled in a track environment. Just taking it out and getting on it doesn't neccesitate running an extra quart, but if that's what you want to do b/c it makes you feel like a street racer then have at it

The knowledgeable people who auto cross the Z06s say not to add the extra quart. They also recommend changing the oil when the life drops below 60% on the DIC. Sounds like experienced drivers follow this guide.

They don't have any "special" knowledge.

The extra quart may help on a road course if you run non-sticky tires. If you run HoosierR6-A6/Khumo V-710's or similar, some type of sump (accu, or dry) is a must do. Extra qt for any type of agressive street driving is a total waste of money.

with George here.

and yes we change our oil very frequently. oil use monitors are almost useless for tack or racing. Clean oil is essential for bearing maintenance. Plus frequent oil analysis tells us whats happening as to engine degradation.

I run a 3 quart accu-sump and oil cooler. about 9 1/2 qts total

on my track car, I run 15-w50 M1, change every two weekends or about every 500 miles. Send for testing each time.

on our street vett, 5-w30 M1 and change once a year. 3-4k miles.

trans cooler left - Oil cooler right

braided oil lines with HIGH temp RED insulation hose over braided lines

Stock oil pump but shimmed.
