Slow day,,lots of traffic,,and got wondering. When you're in traffic and or just motoring around and taking in the scenery,,what gears do you skip,,and do you ever do a 1 to 4 on your own!! I was making a left the other day behind some REAL SLOWPOKES and found myself doing a 1-4 because we sure weren't going anywhere!! Sometimes just putting around town I do 1-3-5-6 or if I don't come to a complete stop,,2-4-5-6!! Just wondering if any others do something similar!!
Around town, 1-3-5-6. Save a little gas that way . Then when your out in the wide open spaces , you can get a little heavier in the peddle & in the end, your mpg doesn't look tooo shaby.

Since we effectively killed the CAGS I've always maintained the shift pattern 1-2-3-4-5-6... dependent upon what the speed limit is. I never alter or skip a gear. I may not shift into a higher gear if road conditions and posted speeds do not allow it.
This practice of maintaining the shift pattern has served me well and has become second nature for me. I may shift sooner (1500 - 2k RPM) while accelerating slower than normal when traffic is light but I always maintain the shift pattern.
If I do (downshift) I'll maintain the shift pattern in reverse while attempting to bring the RPMs up to facilitate a smooth transition while downshifting.
I thought I had fun with a 4-speed '69 Vette I owned for over twenty years until I bought the 6-speed '99 Hardtop. This is fun.

Know what ya mean!! Frequently get low 20's mostly city driving!! But sometimes you JUST CAN'T RESIST the loud peddle!! It was the voluntary 1-4 that got my attention when I did it as that one is not common for me,,just seemed like something to do at the time as the traffic was THAT slow!!
I haven't get gotten my CAGS removed (plan on getting a tune done and having it tuned out at the time), but I can safely say that, unless I was doing something very 'spirited' in 1st, I would never go to 4th gear from 1st. I've only done it a couple of times when CAGS has tried to force the issue, and I just hate the way the car feels going that slow in 4th.
Usually I just run up far enough in 1st to get past CAGS then go to 3rd, 4th 5th 6th. Occasionally I will skip 4th altogether.

You don't need a tune. The CAGS delete harness is really simple to install... Really fast job.
FWIW,,before I got my bypass,,I learned you can "fool" CAGS by a quick fake towards 4th and go up into 3rd or what ever gear you wanted!! At least in mine you didn't have to go all the way in to the gear!! It didn't kick in often,,it was just the unpredictability of it that really annoyed me!!
I agree with vafirevet, there's just something about running through all the gears, even just to short-shift at around 3000 or 3500 RPM - not quite in the powerband but close enough to hear that sweet sounding exhaust note flare up a bit! I'm still running stock exhaust so I like to get the RPM up there to hear it sing.
