I bought a used 2002 convertible and noticed the other day that the driver's side mirror has a yellow tint while the passenger side does not appear to have any tint.
Is that an indication that one side or the other mirror has been replaced or at least the glass? If so, which one?
I have an 03 Z06 and I had a small bubble form at the top of my mirror and now it has expanded to the whole top of the mirror. It has since turned yellow in color while my passenger side has remained blue. Anyone know if the mirror can just be replaced or will I have to replace the whole mirror assembly? I will take pics today and post the difference for reference.
Thanks for the info. Didn't know the passenger side didn't come with that. So Can the mirror itself be replaced? or is it a complete unit that needs to be replaced?
I have not found anyone who sells just the electrochromatic mirror glass singly without the mirror housing. Folks sell mirror glass but not the EC version. BTW: The new electrochromatic mirror costs about $495 so I still have the bubble in my driver's side mirror.
Unfortunately, I may be wrong, but I believe once the delaminating process starts it is irreversible… and as Bill suggested… expensive to replace.
I’ve found an excellent DIY in the archives to replace the regular (left side and magnified right side) mirrored glass in our side mirrors.
If you could obtain just the electro-chromatic glass piece on the cheap (like maybe from a “U Pull-it Yourself” junk yard) you could consider replacing the mirrored glass yourself.

Good luck.

I rarely see Corvettes in a bone yard where they let you pull parts yourself.
In fact, around here, the major players in the recycled Corvette parts market seem to have all of the wrecked Corvettes.
Could it be that your car has the electrochromic mirrors on it? Check for option code 1SB or 1SC.
that's what it should be. i have the option on my 04 CE convert and the mirror (without bubbles, etc) has a yellowish tint to it also. it is not damaged in any way, and it isn't all that difficult to get used to. since the car is always garaged, and is not a daily driver, i chalked it up to the fact that it spent most of it's time in a darkened garage or under a cover in a darkened garage out of the sunlight (which if it were in the sunlight would or at least in theory should cause it to be a lot "bluer" in color i would think). i wonder if it would be an item covered under an extended warranty??
Looking for the same answer. Mine's all nasty too.
So, if we were able to find the electrochromatic mirror glass we'd be good to go on just swapping it out, right? I see that the problem may be finding that part, but as long as we know what to look for!
just like the interior mirror with the feature, it is self dimming. the brighter the light that shines on it, the better it is "softened" by the "dimming" of the mirror glass.
1) self dimmimg 2) came originally from factory as an option and 3) it actually works.
I'd just like to find the replacement dimming glass so I can change it out but that doesn't look like an option at this point. I'd just as soon go to the turn signel outside mirrors when my dimming mirror finally bites the dust. Just looking at options and I see others have the same problems...
