I do not know if the Corvette has a motor number. If it does, it is not used in the USA. Here the VIN is the number used to identify the car. That is the number that will be found on all of the paperwork.

The engine number matching the vin number stopped in the 70s. There will be nothing to show Customs that the engine belongs to the car.

all cars have engine number and the U.S. do not use it because it is not necessary, per in my country are "special" and apply that information to the registry, now my car is in a container in the port and without the I can not remove information ...

12561168 would be the number stamped on the block. Thats the block casting number.

The only other number would be a partial vin which would just be the last few digits of your VIN number. Which is basicly just the build date

The motor has the same VIN# as the car body has. It should be stamped or enscribed just above the oil filter or at least I know for a fact its this way on the C-6's as I watched it happen at Bowling Green. I'm not positive about the C-5.

NOT TRUE.

Here is a quote directly from the GM 2004 Corvette Restoration Guide page 13.
“The engine ID number will be located on the rear of the LH cylinder head or the front part of the LH oil pan rail.” From the picture it looks like it is on the BLOCK just to the rear of the driver’s side head, either in the horizontal or vertical surface. “The eighth digit of the vehicle identification number (VIN) is the engine code letter, which identifies the engine as a 5.7L V8 (VIN eighth digit: G= RPO code LS1 and S=RPO code LS6.”
The ID number may be a stick-on label, laser etching, or stamping on the block.
The code will also have a VIN derivative or part of the car’s serial number just like the old ones.

I doubt the build sheet will have this number anyway. If the car is untouched, there is a copy of the build sheet in the front frame rail.

Get the number off the block directly as stated in the above replies

I have the build sheet for my '99 right here next too me and there is no engine serial number identified on it. Seriously, it should be the same as the VIN# as they are matched together on the assembly line. As long as the engine has not been changed, it is the same number. The port has you in what's referred to as a "Catch-22". Someone there should be able to authorize the opening of the container in order to obtain the number.

I stand corrected. I know GM stopped using the last 4 digits of the Vin on the Engine in early 70's, hence the 'numbers matching' is impossible to do mid/late 70s' early 80s (when I was looking for a C3, discovered this). A new federal regulation was established in 86 and manufacturers had to put the last (?) digits of the vin starting with the 87 model year.

Part 541 - Federal Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention Standard (Effective 4-24-86; amended 10-25-95) This standard specifies performance requirements for identifying numbers or symbols to be placed on major parts of certain passenger motor vehicles. The purpose of this standard is to reduce the incidence of motor vehicle thefts by facilitating the tracing and recovery of parts from stolen vehicles. This standard applies to the following:
(a) Passenger motor vehicle parts identified in Section 541.5(a) that are present:
(1) In the passenger motor vehicle lines listed in Appendix A of this part;
(2) Beginning with model year 1997, in passenger motor vehicle lines which NHTSA has finally determined, pursuant to 49 CFR Part 542, to be high theft based on the 1990/91 median theft rate; and
(3) Beginning with model year 1997, in passenger motor vehicle lines listed in Appendix B of this part.
(b) Replacement parts for passenger motor vehicle lines described in Section 541.3(a)(1) and (2), if the part is identified in Section 541.5(a).

I don't know who you have to talk to, but if you can get an inspection done, tell 'customs' (?) that the last 7 digits on the engine will match the vin (if original engine). There will be no paper work for this, anywhere. Right front side of block under head or Left Rear. Mirror and a flash light if needed.

So if you fill out the paperwork with a number that contains the last 6 of your VIN, who'll know the difference if it's not right. I doubt anyone there is going to double check you.

Fill out the paperwork and get your car back.
