Default JW Motoring does it again.

Well a month or so ago I installed an auto dimming rear view mirror in my car, I wasn't happy at all with the map lights, Well I installed a new set of LED lights into the mirror and I am happy now, The lights made a big improvement on the inside lighting.
Thanks JW Motoring.

Did you install an OEM auto dimming mirror or an aftermarket mirror? I was wondering whether I could swap out the map lights in my OEM mirror for LED as well.

I installed an OEM mirror, The lights in the Auto Dim mirror are different than the non auto dim.

I don't have a write up, It is very easy to install, All you need is the mirror and the plug for it, I do have a file that will show you how to wire one up. Here is a link to the DIY I used http://www.c5forum.com/diy/electro_mirror.php .

Not sure on the non auto dimming mirror, But on the dimming mirror you remove the bulb cover on the bottom and there are the bulbs. The base mirror doesn't have LED bulbs it has a 212 bulb I believe.

On both mirrors the bulb covers or lenses pop out, the autodimmer has LED "chutes" molded into the lenses as well and there is a left and right side so mark them and remember the orientation when you remove them! The LEDs are on a Board, disconnect the cable going to the board and send that in for the Mod...

The base mirror has festoon 212-2 bulbs behind the lenses, which you can get LED variants of... just becareful in there because it's VERY easy to blow the fuse!

FYI White and Blue are tricky to get all of the LEDs to light up and hence the added exspense as the board has to be modified.

JW is a great vendor!

Hey JW, do you have a LED solution for the under hood light yet? (would a LED strip work in that situation?)

I haven't. All of the leds I tested face the wrong way.

I tapped into mine and installed a strip out of site on the hood panel, but it's not near the full brightness. It never goes off either (my stock light didn't either).

This one is out of my skill level.

So if I have the OEM autodimming mirror, the lights are already LED correct? JW would need to modify the board if I want a different color.

$75 and we're good.

We recently modded Chris J's from Houston. He loved it (blue). He also did the full interior plug n play bulbs I sell to match up everything.

Correct, they are already LEDs... If you want Red, Orange or Yellow the board doesn't need modded and it's a direct one for one swap. If you want White, Blue or Green then the board needs to be modified so all the LEDs light up to full brightness.
