Default Problem with all FOB's

Recently had my battery completely discharge. Nothing like those RED TOP's .. If I leave the car for 3 weeks... the battery is dead.

Anyway, Used my new C-TEC and back in business

THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT NONE OF THE FOB's now work. Have 3 different units and don't think that they all died at one time ?

Is there something that needs to be reset ?

Any clues, suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time

You can try holding the lock and unlock buttons at the same time and see if the horn honks. If not you can try to reprogram them.

When you replace the battery, you need to re-program the FOBs. The procedure to re-program them is contained in the owner's manual.

Do what Bill says. Hopefully the reprogramming is all that is needed.

And - since these cars have a draw on the battery while sitting still, not surprised that the Optima ran down. If you don't drive it much, best to keep it hooked to the battery tender.

Matching Transmitter(s) to Your Vehicle
Each remote keyless entry transmitter is coded to
prevent another transmitter from unlocking your vehicle.
If a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can be
purchased through your dealer. Remember to bring any
remaining transmitters with you when you go to your
dealer. When the dealer matches the replacement
transmitter to your vehicle, any remaining transmitters
must also be matched. Once your dealer has coded the
new transmitter, the lost transmitter will not unlock your
vehicle. Each vehicle can have a maximum of three
transmitters matched to it.
To match transmitters to your vehicle:
1. Turn the ignition key to ON.
2. Clear any warning messages on the Driver
Information Center (DIC) by pressing the
RESET button.
3. Press the OPTIONS button on the DIC several
times until the blank page is displayed, then press
and hold the RESET button for two seconds.
4. When the message FOB TRAINING is displayed,
press the RESET button once. The message HOLD
LK + UNLK 1ST FOB in the DIC will be displayed.
5. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the
first transmitter simultaneously for five seconds.
6. When a transmitter is learned (matched), the DIC
will display FOB LEARNED and then prompt you
to learn the second transmitter.
7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for the third transmitter.
8. Remove the key from the ignition.
The programming mode will shut off if any of following
has occurred:

You don’t program any transmitters for two minutes.

You take the key out of the ignition.
You have programmed three transmitters

Default Thanks for the feedback

Thanks guys.. Going to go and give it a try. Hate it when something is not working !!

Probably need to change the batteries as well. 2004 -- 6 years is probably time to change.

If you change the batteries in the FOBs, you'll need to re-program the FOBs again.

So, if I have 2 FOB's (One is new one is old) and I only change the battery in one, do I need to re-program both FOB's OR just the one with the replacement battery ?

You must program all FOB's at the same time.

Default Back to the drawing board

Thanks Mr Bill for the detailed procedure. I was doing fine, got the step where it stated FOB Training, then I pressed the RESET --- nothing happens. Did not get the prompt to press lock and unlock ?

There was a beep that let me know that I had pressed the reset, but nothing. Tried to press the buttons anyway .. no luck..

Any suggestions ???

Thought about disconnecting the battery.. possibly restart the computer module ??

There is no CTL -ALT-DEL on the steering column

My FOBS were NEVER used for the first 12 years. Both DEAD,replaced the batteries from Wallgreens, went through the process to reprogram and all was good! I changed out the dead Red Top to a Yellow Top and FOBS were still programed..
