New owner of a '03 ZO6. Had some column lock questions. Like where can I buy the Bypass and dose it affect any stock functions. Also should Chevy know if my car has received the recall? One more thing, after installing the bypass is there anything else I would have too do?

call the dealer and have them run the vin# to see if it was done or not, you would not need to do anything else
I purchased a kit about 2 years ago for my 04. I just had not gotten a-round-tuit. One day when I had finished changing my oil for the Spring, I got a "steering column lock" trouble code. I was lucky in that apparently the solenoid failed in the retracted position. I immediately installed the kit, though I did not need to retract the locking pin. Code disappeared. You also no longer get that buzz click noise when you turn of the key.
I say DO NOT get the bypass, it can still fail with bypass even if people say it can't, how do I know, because I know someone it happened to. it then creates more issues.
With all due respect, the bypass is the safest path. Most will find this patch successful. On the other hand, the dealer has performed service on this same issue three times without permanent success.
At this point, I have the column lock bypass as well as bypassing the dealer installed relay that's in the passenger footwell. Just last week, I got the display in the DIC but I continued to drive without issue. Message finally went away.
Yes get the bypass, the recall does not "fix" the problem..
Corvettes of Houston, Thunder Racing, just google C5 Column Lock Bypass
Agreed. I purchased my 04 C5Z in Aug 09 at a Chev Dealer.
Dealer did the recall for me and it did NOT fix the problem - in fact I did not have any symptoms till after the recall was done.
I yanked the recall wiring out and installed the Corvettes of Houston CLB afterwards and never looked back - no symptoms with 32K miles under its belt.
Do it and be done with it.

I picked up a 03Z about 3 months ago and right away the first thing I did was installed the Column Lock Bypass. I ordered mine from corvettes of houston.
I took about 20mins to do the install and I am rookie when it comes to cars. 15 of that 20min was removing and reinstalling the panel underneath the column.
