Default original or not

I purchased a 2003 vert with 46.000 miles on it.The tread is 7/32.The tires are Goodyear F1 run flats. They can not be original can they?

Check the date codes on the tires.
They can't be original, with 46k on the car...

Yes, easily.

You are lucky, the first owner did not hot rod it.

I've never heard the OEM run flats ever getting that type of mileage with that much left.....but I could be wrong.

I wouldn't think they were original.

I barely got 22k out of mine, and at that point they were more than shot.

I got 43,000 miles out of my first set of F1's I could have stretched out another 2K but they would have been shot. There is no way you could still have 7/32 left.. the rears came with 11/32 and the fronts were 10/32 New. My mileage was in the top ten percent, for my style of driving, very few people came close to that mileage but then I know how to properly tune the tires to get extended mileage. I tried to teach it here for ten years, but everyone knows better.

Do you calculate the tire ratio of design max psi-to-max load then apply that ratio to the actual weight applied to the tire to determine correct psi?

I used this formula a lot on my duallie and it works great.

Just curious.

I would seriously doubt that with 46K miles on the car that the original tires would still have 7/32nds of tread left. If they do, you've got some amazing tires.

Do you think you could get more than 90k miles out of a set of tires?

That is very good thinking, and an appropriate rule based on individual tire design . Its not really that simple because the ratio exponentially changes as the car weight versa the load gets diminishes.. what I have done for this car, is make sure that internal tire pressure stays close to 30 PSI Hot. + - 1 psi. Its very easy to do, but people here make such a big deal about things. For the record.. that 30 PSI sticker on the door is referred to as the idiot sticker.. Its mandated by DOT, but is there only, I said ONLY, because the max pressure on the sidewall confuses so many people. People put max pressure in their tires and when they heat up they get a high pressure warning on their DIC and this could become a liabiliy issue. The only real issue with internal tire pressure changes is when the ambient temp changes dramatically during the day.. cool mornings and very hot afternoons...when you see a 35 degree F temp swing in 24 hours it effects your tire wear. I always make sure my tires are tuned for the majority of my driving, which in My C5 is during the hottest parts of the day in the summer.. Many people complain about center tire wear when they set their tire pressure when the tires are cold. You are definetly on the right track with your calculations idea, but you could do better being concious of high pressure in the summer when the tires are actually hot and under load.

Mine are original and the manufacturing date is "3902". Which means 39th week of 2002. My car is an 03 with 30k miles. However, there is very little tread left in the fronts and even less in the back. I don't drive in the rain for those reasons but I will be getting new non-runflats next spring. So, to answer your question, I would bet yours have already been replaced.

My buddy had over 40K on his vert and the tires still looked 1/2 left.

That would be closer to 4-5 32nds 7 is hard to believe could have 43K

i think that 46k is a stretch. i have the original GY runflats on my 04, but i only have just under 29k on it (and i have under that left). i figure i'll be around 33k before they are really unsafe, lol (they will be replaced before that point, lol)

I got 53K out of my original tires before I had to replace them. Mostly highway driving, car drove very nicely, no racing or burnouts. I replaced them with the same tires since I got so many miles out of the originals.
