Default Oil change time

Its time to change my oil.
Question - should I change it before winter layup or after in spring?
Does it matter?

How old is the oil in the crankcase? How many months since it was changed? You do not want to oil to exceed 12 months including the lay up time. If it comes to close to 12 months, you should change it before... Once you put new oil in the car the clock is ticking on the 12 month cycle.. if you can put it off until spring and the oil that is in there now wont go past 12 month you can leave the old oil in there.

I have exceeded 12 months. 5,OOO miles but remaining oil life says only 49%.

The reason you need to change the oil now is because the oil turns acidic over time no matter how many miles you put on it. You have to change it once a year. So the answer is change it now... We recommend following the Oil Life monitor unless your oil is 12 months old.. so in that case a change at 12 months is in order.
