Removing paint from the raised letters

Paint the calipers and let them dry overnight.
Take a new 10" or so mill bastard file, new, lay it flat, lengthwise, on the letters. Move the file up and down across the letters, not lengthwise along the letters. This will remove the paint and freshen the metal. Don't get carried away, just use the file until the paint is gone.

I wouldnt try that in risk of sanding some of the actual caliper.

And that can't happen with a file? The stiff edge of a sanding sponge has worked fine for me twice. Your results may vary.

Im not saying it wont work but the sponge can wrap around the letters where the file will lay flat and cant wrap around and touch the actual calipers.

How do you prep the calipers for paint?

Use a can(s) of brake cleaner, a stiff brush, and some cloths.
