I did everything possible not to own a Corvette, but after months of researching, questioning and test driving all sorts of cars, the Z/06 was always by far the hands down winner. And its American. I found an 04 Blk/Blk w/5240 miles 3 years ago ($33K) and there's no doubt the Z/06 is the most car you'll get for any amount of money. And its cool looking as hell, chicks dig it, and its American.
I've had my car since new, I like it but I'd much rather have a C6 Z.
go for it....that's what I thought for a while after buying my Z....maybe a C6Z??? I CAN afford it. I DO realize it is a superior car. But this C5Z is.........I dunno.....GREAT for me. And after this last weekend it's time to open the can of worms and mod!
I bought mine in Oct 09 w/ 22k mi. I love it. Well worth the money.
I have spun out a couple times. The first time it scared me and I wondered if I really made the right choice buying the car.
I later bought new tires, and realized the legal limit/nearly bald tires it came with were the problem, that and the competitive driving mode were the trick.
After the new tires, the car puts the power down now and actually takes off instead of kicking the rear out 2-3 ft while driving straight down a road while doing freeway speeds.
I love it. The looks, the exhaust, and the way it makes you feel when you drive it. I know its only a corvette, but to me its a $400k exotic. Makes you feel like the luckiest, most priveledged person alive... or at least in town.

My 02 is nine years old now, and I keep looking at the new ones and thinking I'd like to "upgrade". But then I look at her, her lines and sleekness, take her for a drive and feel her power and smoothness. She's comfortable to me now. Like a broke in pair of jeans. I could buy something newer, but better? No way. Still lovin my C5Z.
This thread is a great read! Thanks to all for sharing. Had my C5Z since April and still can't get over what a great car it is. It's my daily driver and I can't wait to get up and go to work every morning!!! Of course, the drive home every evening is even better!!
I agree with everyone. You can enjoy you Z06 straight stock or you can mod it and enjoy that. It really doesn't matter, the car drives and runs so good it's just a thrill anyway you want it.
I've had my car since new, I like it but I'd much rather have a C6 Z.
The 427 is not near as robust as the LS6. Have several friends that upgraded and modified the LS7 just to have the pistons blow out through the exhaust. My 03 Z handles much better than the C6Z have put two to shame in the curvy back roads of Oregon!
I'll be honest, my first test drive of a C5Z wasn't impressive to me at all. (But I was new to driving a 400+HP car. So I took it really easy.) First day out with it and nobody in the passenger seat, I nailed the gas and suddenly was very happy with my purchase.
Sometimes it just takes a little ***** to show you what you're missing.
Get to modding her. First thing I'd do is the RSD shifter! It's a fantastic daily driveable shifter and really puts a lot more joy into driving the car. It was the very first mod I did to my car and indeed my favorite mod to this day.
I would suggest doing little by little, by this i mean for example adding full intake getting a feel for the car, then getting full exhaust (headers,Hi FLOWS, or no cats x pipe and catback, then getting a feel for that and being able to control that, then keep moving up. Doing it this way keeps you busy and wanting more instead of getting bored after you do everything at once. Good luck and have fun!!
