Default No Low Beams

I'm having a little trouble with the headlights on my 2001 Z06. When I turn them on, the lamps roll up but the lights don't come on. If I turn them off, the lamps don't roll back down. If I switch to high beams, the lamps roll back down. High beams work both up and down. Any ideas of where I should start to look?

Thanks.

I would start with the fuses and work out. Might be the gears going out.

Could it be the multi-switch on the column?

The hi and lo beams are separately fused. Sure looks like a fuse problem to me.

The specific issue of not closing is the same kind of thing we see with HID's. Since they are drawing much less current (or no current if the fuse is blown) the headlight controller doesn't notice when you turn them off and they don't close.

Check the lo beam fuses.

Check fuses 8 and 10 in the engine compartment fuse box (for low beam). I agree that the symptoms are more likely the multi-function switch failing. Here are a couple links on how to rebuild it. New is very pricey:

And a how to remove it link:

My problem was with the high beams not coming on. It was the multi-function switch.

Oh I can help with this one right now...Just had this exact issue as described. Take the interior apart to obtain access to the connector coming from the multifunction switch. Disconnect the connector and look at the "tan" wire on one end of it, examining the pins/sockets on both sides. This "tan" wire is the "low-beam" power going out to the lights themselves. If you find it burnt/melted like I found on mine, you've found the problem. About the only thing you can do is to cut and bypass the wire. The cause is mostly likely a bad crimp on the pin/socket, which caused resistance to form, therefore a small heater. That in-turn, burns the pin/socket/wire and of course melts the plastic of both sides of the connector.
