Default Adding LED Lights in Engine Bay

Any photos from those who have done this?

Where is the best place to splice in to hook them up? (I just want them to come on while the hood is open - so I guess I may need to add a spring/pressure switch somewhere)?

Any good sources for the LED strings themselves?

I added some to mine but spliced them in to the remote cove light setup I got from JW motoring so I can activate them with a key fob that comes with the kit. Has a few different flashing/steady modes.

Here's a few so-so pics.

Here's where I put the LED strips.

Any other contributors?

Any tips on the best location/method of hooking them up to the electrical system.

IMO the 2 best ways to hookup underhood lights are to:
1) tap the existing underhood lighting circuit
2) install a manual activation switch.

examples:

I'll have a new car done in red LEDs this weekend. Pics by monday morning.

Thanks....yes I was there...great show except for that huge rain shower that happened just as I was inside getting something to eat! Had to run out with my food, throw it in the front seat and hurry and put the roof back on before it got too soaked!

How does the factory map light work? Is it a mercury switch that maybe turns the light on when the hood is lifted and then somehow the BCM senses that and starts a shut off timer?

I mounted a couple led spotlights where the center 2 hood pad retainers are located. enlarged the holes and mounted the leds behind the pad. Relocated the retainers next to the leds. I wired them into the back of the factory hood light so they operate when the hood is open. Always check the hood to p/s resevoir cap if using these spotlights.

I siliconed a superbright strip under the red halltech stinger and was amazed at how "on fire" it looks!

Here is a picture of how I wired them into the back of the underhood light. Soldered the wires directly to where the factory bulb is located.

Do we know what signals the stock hood light to come on? Is it a mercury switch INSIDE the light housing maybe?

that is correct. if you just tap into the wiring going to the light it will be on all the time.

I added some strips to mine and installed a small mercury switch under the liner and ran the wires where they can not be seen unless you know where to look for them.

Went by your photo and installed my LED OZNIUM Strips in the engine bay tonight using your soldering diagram/photo. Everything seems to be working perfect! Even retained the stock bulb functionality (but I am looking for an LED replacement that is the same color temperature as the NATURAL WHITE LEDS I just installed).

THANK FOR THE PHOTO SHOWING SOLDERING POINTS!
