Just curious what the guys with serious mods do in regards to the oil change frequency? Boosted engines, forged bottom ends etc. Obviously the OLM was based on a completely factory LS engine so would you go by the tried and true 3,000 mile or less depending on power? Discuss.
My car just turned 111K miles. I have H/C/I/E and a 150 shot of smack all on a stock bottom end. I change the oil every 3K miles full synthetic Edge or Amsoil. Some people disagree I tend to do it out of choice, if you want great protection add engine break in additive again I do it by choice but I have no issues with burning oil, or anything like that.
The bottom line is this: Get an oil analysis and find out if YOUR change interval is too soon or not soon enough. I would venture to say that most C5 owners who change their oil at 3000 miles or less are wasting money.
I use mobile 1 synthetic. I usually change when the DIC shows ~15%, which is just about 5k miles. Seems reasonable for synthetic.
Just consider that a lot of BMWs go well over 10k to an oil change. In fact, Car and Driver noted that they went about 22k on a long term tester.
I found that odd myself. My friend has a 2005 3 series which he DDs and has his oil changes every 10k miles. And the car also has a plastic water pump. Go figure.
I use Mobil 1 15w-50 and it depends on what I do. If im racing, I will change it alot. just street driving? I will go 5000 or so. PLus I have upwards of 10 quarts to change.... not cheap

I once spoke to the manager of a shop that repairs mostly German autos and he told me that he has seen many german cars with really bad sludge problems. The owners didn't take into consideration the type of driving they did (Many would take short and infrequent trips.), yet would wait 15,000 miles between oil changes.
This why the C5 uses an algorythm to determine oil life that is based upon how hot the oil gets and for how long it maintains that temperature.
