Took a night shot of the Vette ,first without the flash,then with the flash,but I don't see a lot of difference-Maybe I need Mr Bill to chime in and tell me what I'm doing wrong...

Yes, They are very close, I see you shot them in normal program mode, What you really need to do is shoot in manual mode with a tripod and try a bunch of different exposure settings.
In my opinion I like the first picture, It had better detail and doesn't have a super hero standing in the frame....lol
