The top on my '99 has gotten so frayed at the B pillar that the door window catches and won't close properly, so a replacement is in the foreseeable future.
I know that it is a tricky job to install a new one and I would have a pro do the job, but I'm unclear about the options on the top itself. Most of the suppliers seem to sell tops in the $500 - 600 range. However, some have them for up to $1,400. Aside from about $800, what is the difference?
Most of the higher end/higher cost tops are custom material usually geared towards the exotics crowd, Vettes included. Plus custom colors and headliners.
I have a black top and when the time comes, I plan to order a custom gray top similar to one I saw on a Precision Red C6 vert.
Mine is Mag Red with the Oak interior and top and I like the Oak top so I plan to replace it with the same color. Also, most of the wear was from the previous owner who did not have it garaged, but it now has a permanent spot in my garage so the new top will not get nearly the wear the original did. Sounds as though I should just go with one of the $500-600 replacements.
Make sure you go with the heavy cloth and not vinyl, I've seen posts here where people have tried to go the cheap route with vinyl and regretted it. Then go with a cleaner/protectant like raggtopp to maintain it
