could some one tell me if its a big job to replace the studs ,reason is i want to bring the rear wheels out and adapters dont ride on the hub so i need to purchase custom spacers made to fit hub and wheel thank you
I am interested in hearing from someone that has done this too.
From what I can see on the Vette, and it is probably the same as other car I have done (Eclipse, 84 Vette, Cutlass), you will need to remove the wheel and brake assembly and hopefully will have enough room to tap the old ones out and pull the new ones through.
My concern is whether or not the hub NEEDS to be removed to allow enough room to work. I don't have an impact, so this would create a problem removing the axle nut.
You don't really want to be knocking them out with a hammer as that can dramatically reduce the life of the ultra-expensive wheel bearing. Its a bit of work but you should remove the spindle, clamp it in a bench vice and then knock them out. Is anything easy to do on a corvette?
However, there is a much easier solution. Assuming that you are running 18x9.5's a 1 inch spacer will move the wheel flush with the fender. You can by the type of spacer that comes with its own studs so you don't have to go through the pain of swaping yours out.
BTW. I didn't have any trouble removing my axel nut with a 1/2" drive breaker bar.
