Just got the replacement sockets from Fichtner Chevrolet which involves cutting the old one out and splicing in the new one. Without removing the panel attached to the brake duct, I have very little room to splice in the socket. Is it possible to gain more acsess to the harness going through the headlight? That would involve taking the whole assembly out. Any ideas?

If you move the brake duct over, slip your hand inside and remove the bulb/socket, you should be able to pull it through the brake duct. YES, there is enough of a length to do it. The hard part will be removing the bulb/socket then putting it back in when your done.
The other option is like damilleniumboy said, jack up the car and go through the access panel.

I've done this too. Very easy...you can do the whole thing while sitting on a stool. By not accessing from bottom there is no jacking/laying on back. That said, pick one.
