Default something for the group

I got in my vette today after lunch and was ready to go back to the office, I put the key in the easy entry worked, steering wheel starting moving towards me, stereo came on,lights came on heater came on, but when I turned the key nothing happened which was very wierd. I started panaicing as I had a class to teach in about an hour from that time, so I decided to check the codes, remember everything worked just no starter turning no nothing from the engine, I had not recieved the charge systme fault error battery is relatively new, the code was PCM 1631 which read as anti theft password incorrect, so the antitheft system had been engaged, I had a H and C, for current and history code. I decided to reset it and see what would happen. It reset and the car started no problems, the only thing I can think of is the diode in the key must be getting old, I have two sets, so I will change out the key and see what happens. Verry odd feeling. But glad the car started. car is an 04 so its only 6 yers old. well almost 7.

let me know what you think and has anyone else experienced this issue.

Try taking alcohol and wiping off the resistor on the key. Wouldn't hurt to take a cotton swab and do the ignition switch either.

Sometimes the resistor pellet just gets dirty and needs a good cleaning.

Resistors don't go bad, right?!

Clean it... May need to find a way to clean the contactors in the key hole as well.

Default thanks guys

any thoughts on using carberator cleaner on the key as that pretty much is designed to clean stuff and it evaporates in the air when dry??

just a question. I will try the new key tommorrow morning I should my second fob set key. I have already changed out the keys on my key chain fobs.

I know you have to go to a dealer of a lock smith that has the device that can read the key and same device that can set it the diode on the key. in order to get a new one made??

will definitely try cleaning it first.

Default thanks again

I do have a dmm, and the other key seemed to work flawlessly, no issues that I saw, will pull codes again tommorow morning before heading off to work to see if it did it again. The primary key is howing wear on the pellet, which is why it is probably acting up I did take a eraser to it, so it might last awhile longer, but I plan to invest in another key soon.

Thanks

You can get a genuine GM VATS key blank for about $28 on the auction site. About half that for an aftermarket one.
