I've found several posts on replacing the OPS. I've decided to use the manifold removal method. One thing I've noticed in the instructions is that none of them mention replacing the intake manafold gaskets. Is this just a given or did I buy gaskets that I don't need?
I'm getting pretty good at removing my manifold. And the first time I did it, for the oil sensor, at 65K miles I replaced the gaskets. It's my baby. But since then I've removed it several more times with the same gaskets - no problems.
Of course, it's a mysterious venture to pull it the first time, but it's pretty easy really. If questions call me at 858-243-2736.
One of the reasons I had to pull it again was that the first time I did not get the vacuum hoses on correctly. Never noticed until it flunked inspection. So be careful with them. The other reason I had to pull it was because the cam position sensor failed. So maybe if yours has upwards of 70K miles, spend the extra $100 for the cam sensor now. Only other hint is that I use a drop of blue Loktite on the manifold bolts because of low torque.
Gaskets will usually be ok to reuse. Make sure that the small vac hose in the rear is attached, I extended mine to make it more manageable. DO NOT over torque the manifold bolts, they will break.
