Default LS1 Cam and Head Drivability

The goal is to install the most aggressive cam/heads possible without compromising drivability of my stock C5 LS1 with a six speed. After a great deal of research and sound bites I found the following: AFR 205cc LS1 Mongoose Street Head - Milling for 11.0 to 1 and a Comp Cam P/N 54-444-11 with XE-R lobe designs, 224/230 duration, 581/588 Lift, LSA 114. Would like feedback on the drivability of this combination and if 91 octane fuel will run without any problems.

Future mods would be a FAST Intake and Long Tube Headers—any guess what the RWHP would be after all the mods?
Thanks Paul

The other cam/heads package I was considering is at the Corvette Forum Store: 99-04 C5 Level 3 - Race (SKU 11118023)
(RPM Range 3000-7000) Up to 120HP Increase.
Rough idle, Auto w/High Stall Converter or 6 Speed Manual~Cam Specs: 232/232 Duration, .575/.575 Lift, 112 Lobe Center~

The sound bite sounds good/manageable but wondering if this cam will surge in first gear at 15 to 25 MPH for a daily driver? What are your thoughts on this cam and how good are the heads in this package? I would save a few hundred dollars going with this package versus AFR.

Stick with a smallish cam for any street driving

224/228 581/588 112+2

or the 224/230 cam you mention in your first thread

I run a custom Bullet Cam

Patriot Stage II Heads 10.9 compression

222/222/.575 113

Great Lopey Idle and pulls great on the street.

Ran it before and after I went FI.

Anybody have experience with the (WCC) West Coast Corvette heads? They are a few hundred less than the AFR 205s.

It sounds like since I have a 6 speed I should go with a 112 LSA. So I am focusing more on a Comp Cam XFI 228/230 571/573 LSA 112. What advantages would this cam have over the XER 224/230 581/588 LSA 114?

There's way too much emphasis on choosing your LSA. Very little difference in drivability, or performance at that duration level. IMO, you should do the LTs first, and then decide on a H/C combo. Also, for aftermarket heads, I'd recommend Trickflow over AFR.

C6 Batmobile, XSPOWER and Leprkon showed me how to install a Comp Cam 228 230 585 588 113 lsa cam and all the trimmings a couple of weeks ago. Idle after dyno tune set at 875,,,,no drivability issues here. The new TQ and HP is a ton of fun!

I will add the heads and intake later!

http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=169&catid=44 <-- Largest cam I'd go with for street driving with a 6-speed. And I'd stick with 114 LSA or higher (112+2 if possible)

i'm running a TSP 228R cam with a 112 LSA. It chops at idle but it's got great street manners. The street manners mostly are from the tune. A great tune can get an aggressive cam to feel like a baby cam.

Got a video clip or something to hear the chop? I've been trying to figure out what cam I want, and that's one of the ones I've been considering.

My heads and cam are being installed this week. I went with the Patriot Stage 2 heads, comp cam w/ .588 lift, 224-228 and 114lsa. Already have ARH headers, B&B PRT cat back and SLP Blackwing.

i don't really have a good clip of it. i have one but it's indoors and you can't hear it and the other is of it WOT on the dyno that doesn't really let ya hear the chop It's not real aggressive of a chop but when it's cold you can tell it's cammed.

I have this XR281HR cam in mine with the 228//230 571/573 112lsa and I LOVE it! Pulls like a beast at about 3000! Has a great idle and awesome mid and upper range power. Is a beast to drive in slow traffic though. If you don't feather your clutch and gas just perfect, you will be surging big time. That is the only downside to it.

^^ Great combo. Cam is not to high on lift so valve train life is much longer.

whats the difference (in gains and drivablility) between those exact same numbers (224/228) but going from LSA of 114 vs the 112+2

what is a 112+2?

Cam I am highly considering....the popular AFR 6016.

Make sure you look into your state or county emissions standards, I wanted to go with G5X3, but it would never pass, just check before you dump a bunch of money in your car!
