Default dual valve spring?

is it ok to put a set of dual springs rated for 660lift on a cam with about 580lift? im not sure if it will cause abnormal wear verses a lower rated spring.

I love the idea of dual springs for insurance. But, why go with a spring rated for so much more lift than you need?

it will, in fact, cause unnecessary stress on the rest of the valvetrain and induce valvetrain instability. and eat a little power in the form of parasitic (frictional) loss. as to insurance, duals are just as likely to fail as a good beehive. most knowledgeable builders recommend the least amount of spring necessary to do the job.

A dual spring certainly can also fail. The benefit is the second spring in most cases does not fail at the same time and will keep the valve from dropping into the cylinder or banging into the top of the piston and possibly destroying the engine. You are much more likely to have major engine damage if you break a single spring.
