Default Spark plugs and wires replacements ?

I'm looking at changing the spark plugs and wires in my 2003 LS1 and was wondering if since the car is totally stock, should I stick with the GM spark plugs and wires or is there something better suited for the job ? Thank You !

We use the GM Hot (red) wires almost exclusively, along with NGK TR55's on naturally aspirated mostly stock cars. Never had a problem with the combination.

The GMPP red wires are good, as are the AC Delco Iridium plugs.

Being that you have an '03, you may have AC-Delco Iridium plugs installed from the factory.

As others have said GMPP red wires.

GM RED WIRES "PERIOD"!!! You will not find a better quality wire. NO plug wire will give you a "performance increase" over a GM wire!!!

Look for a quality wire with quality hardware. The GM performance red wires fill that billet 100%. You will NOT be sorry.

Gene and Patrick at www.gmpartshouse.com have excellent prices and 100% satisfied customer service! Let them know you need the wires and they will fill the bill.

I use MSD Red Wires with AC Delco 41-110 and have nothing but good things to say about them. The GM Red wires are are amazing quality as well.

I agree with the above recommendations on wires/plugs. My question is though, why are you changing wires and plugs @ 14.7k miles? Plugs/wires are not like cheese, they don't grow mold and don't spoil just sitting in the garage!

1. I don't want to have a problem down the road with the plugs being hard to remove as they will adhere to the aluminum head and perhaps ruin some threads coming out and a new coating of Anti-Seize will help to that end and 2. I think after close to 9 year's a fresh set of spark plugs and GMPP wires would be in order.

Waste of $ to do it now.

Could just pull the plugs check gap and reinstall with anti seize.

Just be careful pulling the wires off the plugs.

btw MSDs on mine

I see your point, but just humor me please. If I pull the old plugs, why not just put a dab of anti-seize on a fresh plug and go from there ? Same thing with the wires, if I'm going to the trouble of pulling them, why not install a set of GMPP fresh red wires ? But the one question I haven't asked is about the heat covers, is it a good idea to slide a set of the heat resistant wire sleeves on the plug wires while I'm in there? Or are the stock wires are fine by themselves ? Thanks for your advice and directions. And I guess there isn't any sense in looking at MSD's Street fire coils ? Just thinking here. Thanks again !

The existing shields transfer just fine. If your engine is cold, play with one.

You'll just pull them back on the wire out of the way and put your wire remover pliers or channel locks pliers or strong hands and rotate while pulling. (Don't be surprised during wire removal. I was!)

Then before you install the new wires, insert the shield and install. Don't forget the grease.

You'll probably answer some of your questions when you're in there working on it to see the effectivity of the heat shields. Unless you have headers, then it might be slightly different. Just go out and take a peek, it's really a lot more straight forward then you think. It's normal, I've done my LT1 several times and that required straddling the passenger front tire to get to #8. And each wire was different so you had to map them all out first.

The LS1, geez each wire is the same and what a few inches long. Leading up to it, I thought man this is going to be another ordeal like the LT1, not a chance. It is very straightforward.

Your only concern on aluminum engines is to work on a cold engine, use aluminum anti-seize and use proper torque. Personally I like to hand start my plugs, I just prefer to feel the threads start. Then I switch over to the socket and finger tight then put the torque wrench on and torque it.

The GMPP red wires are optimum quality to do the job. And compare head to head against the others. The forum dealer Gene Culley will treat you right for price too.
