Default remote start

has anyone had a remote start system installed on a c5? what brand did you use? do they have a system that will work with the factory remotes? like it or a waste? thinking of having it put on my wifes c5. thanks.

I don't have one in my Vette, but have one in my F150. There is no reason that they won't work in the Vette. Mine is a Viper and gives me 2 way communication. That means that when I start the truck, the system confirms that it is running on the fob. It also tells me the temperature in the truck and if it is locked or not. The fob that comes with these systems usually replaces the fob that comes with the car. It will lock/unlock the car as well as start it. Some can be programmed to do additional things like raising/lowering windows, popping the trunk etc. Mine is also an alarm, and the fob buzzes and vibrates if someone is trying to break into the truck. The capability of these systems is limited only by how much you want to spend.

I've got a Viper system on my Avalanche truck and the wifes Jeep Liberty. I watched the install on the truck and it appeared VERY complicated with many wire splices and connections. I decided early on not to try to have one put on my C5 simply because it appears to me this car has a verycomplicated/sensitive electrical system that I don't want to take a chance on screwing up. Besides that the C5 is not a DD. I'll just go to the garage and fire her up!

Just my opinion, I'm sure there are others. Good luck if you try.

I didn't have factory keyfobs for my 99 corvette, so I did some research and ordered a 5101 viper remote start. Took me about 7 hrs to install first one, but in past month, I have installed another 5101 viper kit on fathers solara, 4103 avatal on neighbors 07 accord and a 4103 avatal on my wife's Honda odyssey.
The range on aftermarket fobs are 5x better than factory remotes. My wife from hospital, can start her car and allow it to warm while she walks the 1/4 to employee parking lot. You still need a key to drive it away (putting foot on brake with no key in ignition shuts off car)

DEI has the best wiring diagrams, so if you buy online, make sure they include a tech sheet specific to your vehicle and not just a generic installation manual.

I can do them now in about 2-3 hrs and the avatal 4103 kits plus security bypass costs less than 100.00

In bold are the wires I connected
Constant 12V+ Red Ignition Switch Harness
Starter Yellow Ignition Switch Harness
Ignition Pink Ignition Switch Harness
Ignition 2 Brown Ignition Switch Harness

Accessory Orange and/or Brown Ignition Switch Harness

Tach White Distributor or PCM (didnt need as viper dei uses virtual tach )
Neutral Safety Wire Orange/Black (-) Switch on Transaxle ( I just grounded this wire as mine is auto and stays in park)
Brake Switch White Brake Switch
Trunk Release Black (+) Switch or Light Blue at BCM

Trunk Pin Red/Black (-) Hatch Switch or at BCM
Parking Lights Brown (+) Driver's Kick Panel or Steering Column
Head Lamp Yellow (+) Light Switch
Hood Pin Pink/Black (-) BCM behind Passenger's Kick
Factory Disarm Light Green (-) Driver's Kick Panel
Door Trigger Gray/Black DR- And Black/White (Passenger's) either Kick or at BCM
Door Lock Orange/Black (-) In Driver's Door Must go inDoor [
Door Unlock Red/Black (-)
Driver's Lock Gray In Driver's Door
Driver's Unlock Tan In Driver's Door
B]( I connected door lock and unlock to key cylinder driver door so it would think I was unlocking with key and disarm factory alarm)

Passenger Unlock Orange/Black In Driver's Door
Horn Wire Black (-) Steering Column and at BCM [/B]
Windows Up LF=Dark Blue, RF=Dark Blue
Windows Down LF=Brown, RF=Brown

Video of operation Door lock and unlock (with honk honk and parking light flash) hold aux button 3 secs for trunk pop and remote start and shut down from fob

So I’m guessing this somehow bypasses the immobilizer key??

My remote start does all of this in my corvette but I have a different system by a company called avital. I have a viper system in my jeep though. Just basic remote start and lock/unlock and i like both systems alot. Haven't had any problems with them at all.

Mine had a vats key 3k ohms and I used a 2.00 resistor from radio shack wired through universal relay to save 30.00
On the auction sites you can search "avital 4103 xk09" and find them for 99.99 packaged together.

The DEI units ( viper, avital, python ) plug directly into the xk09 security bypass. Basically it adds the resistance of your key chip into system whenever remotestart is activated. http://www.xpresskit.com/VehicleComp...vette&ps=1&s=0 link to install guide.

Too many potential issues for me to get comfortable with all the wiring. My C5 is tucked comfortably in the garage. Don't have a need for a remote.

RUNWME, I am up in Richmond, if I were to drive down with the gear to do this job some time in the spring, would you be interested in helping me do it? 04 Z06.

Thanks!

You're better off getting a good car audio shop nearby to install the remote start system. I got a Code Alarm (DEI like everything else) installed locally with a lifetime warranty for $350 a few years ago. It's been flawless since!

Sure thing, happy to help... just pm'd you my address and phone number. We have 2011 season passes to Kings Dominion, so by the spring we may be up your way and could swing by if you haven't gotten this here before then.
