I am thinking of adding this C5 to sit beside my 72

http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/dd...null&cardist=0

According to KBB it is under the average mileage and retail price for this area but 115K miles scares me. It has more than my 72 does actually. Still it looks great but I know nothing about C5s. How many miles before a 1999 C5 starts to be unreliable.

I would pass on it. I paid $17k for a 99 Coupe that has all the options that one has except the Magnesium wheels and active handling. Mine only had 38,000 miles on it when I bought it and still looks brand new.

IMHO, you can pay a little more and get one with fewer miles.

Too many miles. The one thing I noticed in my search, that lasted over 3 months, was you can pay 14 or 15 for high mileage car or 15 to 18 for a low mileage, less in some cases.

Through KBB out the window once you find something, it just gives starting points on price and shouldn't be used as the gospel.

- find one with half the miles as the one you're looking at.

Not bad, but if I were you I would shop around... unless you are already in love with that car.

2 of them were manual. the red one I linked to is the nicest of those 2.

The Fl coast just isnt too car buyer friendly.

I found mine on Autotrader.com
I drove 2 hours each way to another state to buy mine.

Be ready to buy now, as it seems the prices are lowest from January to February when a lot of the cars have sat for a few months and people are more interested in buying 4x4's instead of sports cars.

"The incredible LS1 5.7L V8 purrs like a kitten, the 6-speed transmission shifts perfectly, and the clutch bites hard to put all 350 horses to the pavement."

this whole ad made me laugh but the bold parts made me laugh out loud!

bet the guy who hates cats on this forum would not like to buy a corvette that "purrs like a kitten".

The high miles put me off, pictures look good, and it is spec'd well.

I enjoyed the description "The incredible LS1 5.7L V8 purrs like a kitten, the 6-speed transmission shifts perfectly, and the clutch bites hard to put all 350 horses to the pavement." made me laugh..

There are plenty of C5's out there and am sure you could find a lower milage unit.

If it's close enough to you,go test drive it-try to ignore how great it looks and concentrate on the mechanicals-if it sounds good ,drives good, and feels right, buy it.
Not everyone selling a car is trying to screw you-there are actually some cars being sold that are exactly what they're advertised to be.
Have the seller run a carfax on it so you can possibly see if it's ever had any major "issues"

If it's been taken care of,and YOU take good care of it,there's no reason it won't go another 80-100k.
With those miles on it,though, set some money aside for replacing some wear items-Vettes are great cars, but some things do wear out,and need replacing eventually.

Advise from a recent buyer. If you like the car and it is close enough for you to go take a look, I would do it. I assume since you are considering the car that the miles don't scare you too bad. I bought a 50,000 mile car for $15,500 and I don't believe I got a "steal" but the dealer was asking $19k for it the first time I saw it on auto trader. The car has more rock chips on the nose than I would have liked but after the test drive and the appearance of the rest of the car I bought it. I promised myself that I would not look at any more Corvette for sale ads for at least a year. Someone will always find a killer deal after you have bought and make you think gee, I paid too much. I actually made my offer to the dealer before I saw the car in person with the understanding that I had to be satisfied when I got there or there was no deal. There was/is an almost identical cat at another dealership with only 23k miles and they have had the car since about august and have not come off their $21.5K price. No doubt it does not have as many rock chips as my car but I was not willing to put the extra money out for the lower miles. I'm going to drive my car and will surely get another chip or two along the way. If you like the car, decide what it is worth to you and make an offer ( they turned me down at first but called me back after a few days ). Someone will buy that car at some price sooner or later, it could be you.

I'm not sure anyone has enough miles to know.

You can do much better than that.

I bought a 2002 Millenium Yellow A/T Coupe with 2,800 miles on the clock (exactly the model, equipment and mileage I was looking for) in the summer of 2010 from a local BMW dealer. The dealer was asking $28,000, but I bought it for $24,000. [I found out the VIN, then ran a Car-fax on it. Determined the dealer had the vehicle on his lot for 3 months, so I suspected he was unable to sell the car for his asking price. Turned out I was right!]

I have since seen advertised in the local news media (by owner and from dealerships) several 2000 through 2004 coupe, FRC and Z06 models, each with less than 30K miles, for anywhere from $19K to $25K.

So whether you want a coupe or Z06, low mileage cars are out there in seeming abundance. Just be patient. Select the color, transmission type and model you are looking for. It will show up sooner or (not so much) later.

And finally, if offered by a dealer, do homework to determine how long the dealer has owned the car, then use that information when making your first offer. You may be surprised what they will actually take when compared to what they are asking.

its called bargain on the price especially with a dealer. my 01 that i just bought was listed for 21999 at the chevy dealer and after playing cat and mouse with the salesman and almost had him on his knees begging me to buy the car i got it for 18-flat. IMO you can bargain more with a dealer than i private seller only problem is that you dont know where the car came from at a dealer
