Got my '71 LS5 in '83, '96 Collector's Edition in '07, '03 Z06 in 2010.
I too don't buy new cars, but I HAD to have the C5 when it first came out!

I always buy new because I am rich and better than most people....I was one of the originating C5 Corvette Engineers in charge of the colum lock thingy and which tires to use on the C5 and what tire pressure to use in the Goodyear Runcraps......(45 psi cold 
) I pay cash without a loan on all of my vehicles. Only poor CorvetteForum trolls buy a used Corvette...stop doing drugs and get a job and save your money so you don't have to buy a used pos vehicle that someone else has krapped in...only rednecks and gays buy used vehicles...jealous little punks buy used vehicles because they don't have enough money to buy a new car...muslems buy used vehicles...Israelies buy used vehicles...homopheobs (sp?) buy used vehicles...people who buy used vehicles are slimebballs...or have no *****

Out of dozens of vehicles I have had in my life I have only bought one New Vehicle...a 2004 Vette...and I got $12K+ off of MSRP just like you did John, right before the C6s came out...so I guess that kills a little of the depreciation that hit us...

Bought my first Vette, 1999 Coupe in January 2001 with 13K on the clock...I still have it...
Bought my second Vette in November 2002, leftover new 2002 Convertible..(68 miles)
Drove the silver convertible for 5 years, 60K miles....Sold it in Feb 2008 and bought a triple black 99 Convertible with 42K miles on it for $10K less
That $10K windfall made buying my leftover new 2007 C6Z (142 miles) the same month MUCH less painful
