Default Finally got a C5

A few weeks ago I posted a C5 with a lot of miles on it that I was thinking about buying. The general consensus was to wait until I found one with lower miles. I am glad I waited. I found this up today.
Dealer has had it for a few weeks.

2000 6Spd.
35K miles

I got it for 18K

One question I did have was in the glovebox one of the codes on the sticker is Z51. Does that mean that it has the Z51 suspension package. The button on the center console just turns on or off traction control so I wasn't sure. Until now all I knew about vettes came from owning this one.

Congratulations!!

I believe the code in the glovebox for the Z51 suspension is FE3, but I could be wrong. Maybe someone with more knowledge on it will chime in

I found this website that I think has the codes listed correctly.
http://www.rpocodes.com/gmrpocodesAthroughF.html.

According to it, FE3 is a sport suspsension.

Next to the code for Z51 it says
Z51 : PACKAGE, PERFORMANCE HANDLING.

I am guessing that means I have the Z51 all right. Chances are considering my old daily driver was a Ford Explorer I probably wouldnt know the difference between the z51 and the normal suspension.

Wow great buy! Z51 is the performance handling package. FE3 is not the same do not listen to the above poster LOL. The traction control botton turns it on and off, as well as competition mode by holding it down. I don't remember what year they started comp. mode, yours may not be new enough. Great looking car, have fun!

You could be right, I'm by no means an expert in the Z51,

I did do a search right quick and found this site

http://www.c5registry.com/membersonl...suspension.htm

Heres a quote from the site that may help explain:

Z51 Handling Package is designed for appropriate, sanctioned competitions, or for the driver who desires the ultimate in a suspension system. Tuned on road racing courses and autocross tracks, Z51 offers a top level of handling. Z51's highly controlled ride stems from stiffer springs, larger stabilizer bars and larger monotube shock absorbers than the standard suspension. When Z51 is ordered with MXO Automatic Transmission It Requires the G92 Performance Axle Option which has a ratio of 3:15 The only way to get the Power Steering Cooler is with the Z51 package. Basically, the Z51 Package is the combination of the "Heavy Duty Suspension" and the "Power Steering Cooler".

Note: When reviewing your RPO codes on your C5's RPO Code Sticker you will notice that when Z51 is Selected the RPO code of FE3 (HEAVY DUTY SUSPENSION) is also there. FE3 is the RPO Code the Factory Production line employees use when building the C5 with the Z51 Package. At the Factory all FE3 Compents are COLOR Coded with either WHITE TAGS or a White Colored Crayon Mark.

I have a 2000 Z51 Coupe,,,the button on the console on mine is to turn off/on the TC. If it says Z51 on the glove box, you have a Z51 car.
Means stiffer sway bars, extra fluid cooler, stiffer shocks than base model.

Real sweet ride! And a nice buy!

Do some research on the A/H option, some Z51 had them I have been told. Mine doesn't. 2000 was a transition year for the C5. If your's doesn't, be glad. The replacement shocks are sky high. I just installed C6 Z06 shocks on mine and WOW!

The post above is what I mean,,,all 2000's were not alike!

Enjoy the heck outta her!

My understanding is that Active Handling System became standard in 2001, but was available before that as RPO JL4. To enter Competitive Driving mode, Press and hold the Traction Control button on center console. I think on early models car had to be running but stopped. Competitive Driving mode leaves Active Handling on but will allow wheels to spin.

Congrats on C5. Looks great!
