I dont see why all these guys put all that c6 stuff on there c5z, like wheels, shift ***** exc, I think the stock c5z are fine in stock form.
C6Z shifter is a very nice mod to the C5Z. Much better action and engagement, shorter throw, more ergonomic grip. It's relatively inexpensive and simple to install. Some of us have to mod things, and in this case GM did all of the engineering for me. You can stay stock all you want, I like making it mine. I do keep everything I take off, on the off chance I need to sell it and a stock purist wants to buy it.
I have an MGW shifter, and I've gone from stock **** (yuck), to a 2" hurst style ****, to my current delrin ****. I like the ball most, but havent bothered to take off the delrin and put it back on. It doesnt bother me that much, although it does look a little funny.
Guys, where can I get the C6 **** from? I've been looking at it also and it just looks like a much better feel than the stock unit.
The problem with the C6 **** is, you can't use it w/o using a C6 shifter, or aftermarket. The newer **** just slides over an unthreaded shaft, and has a retainer screw on the side. The stock C5 shifter is threaded, and has the "demon" slot that uses the dreaded key to retain the ****. Some aftermarkets may make C6 **** to fit, but I don't know. If you're on the fence about getting an aftermarket shifter, (I have and prefer MGW's) you can always go with a new C6Z unit, that comes with the new ****, and is really an improvement over stock, without being radically different. I had one, and liked it better than stock, but I ended up with an aftermarket one that was, IMO, better.
I love my Delrin **** (atop my Mallett shifter). I think the pistol grip provides for a much more natural hand position on this shifter, since it sits up so high. Must be a reason that the C5 race cars have (or had) this style ****...
Also, it doesn't get too hot in the summer, or too cold in the winter.
I think it's a great ****. Gotta go with what works for you.

That's why I run the longer one from Hardbar. Hand just falls to it, no matter what.
I turned down an aluminum **** for my Jeep a few years back. It required gloves to get near it some times. Never again a solid metal shift ****.
In my C5 I run the C6Z **** as that is the closest thing available to that Audi ****.
I'm not sure why all the aftermarket has been able to offer is metal ***** or plastic ****** but I think it has something to do with most people not really wanting anything else. When I see posts of people claiming the stock **** is just fine and they're not sure why anyone would even bother changing it, I begin to lose faith in humanity.
If any potential shift **** vendor is listening, here are some tips for what I think would make an excellent shift ****:
1. Cover it with high quality perforated leather
2. Add chrome or aluminum trim
3. Make it ergonomic to the palm, but please keep it symmetric(biggest downside of C6 ****)

Nice! I like this one, but it is close to the C6 ****. Yeah, the stock C5 **** is horrible. Squishy, square, and just plain ugly.
