Even I find it hard to believe!
Still trying to convice us to sell our Vettes, dont you ever learn
 , I wasnt there to see this race so I will not comment on it, but here is some food for thought you pesky little ricer, STOCK Z06 1/4 times, mid to low 12's, Stock TT Rx-7 1/4 times mid to low 14's (2 seconds = about 20 cars in the 1/4 , end of story. Is it me or dont ricers seem like those pesky flys that bug the hell out of you in the summer when you are sitting outside on the porch trying to enjoy a beer, they pester you and pester you until SMACK SQUASH, no more pesky flys :D , those ricers kind of sound like insects on crack , so this is a good analogy.

In other words; a total load of crap!
Street racing matches two cars of unknown origin with two drivers of dubious credibility, on a street with unknown and likely less-than-optimal character. It shouldn't take a Statistics major to see the "test" is not valid.
So some over-boosted RX-7 takes on some dweeb in a ZO6 and "wins" from rolling starts... whatever.
In real-world racing, where cars are classified to create a semblance of order, the ZO6 is stomping the crap out of the RX7's right now, especially on the national level. In the SCCA the Gen3 RX7's once ruled, today they are falling to ZO6's; both '01 and '02 vintages.
I had the enjoyment of taking my totally stock, unlowered, 1,200 mile on the clock '02 Z to an auto-X practice day, where I met up with three BMW M coupes. One of those M coupe's was driven by an individual that, on a previous occasion, commented how he had stomped several ZO6's, that they were fast on the top end, but couldn't keep up with his mighty BMW on the low end, or on tight roads. His car has been lowered and modded with Bilstein Shocks and H&R Springs, and set up with 2.5 degrees negative camber at the front, 2.2 degrees rear, as well as all the Dinan intake and software mods.
End of the day, his best in his modded coupe a 69.60, my best in the new and totally stock ZO6, a 68.02. The other two M coupes had similar mods, but never came near me all day. After he fitted his Coupe with a set of race tires, he was able to finally beat my time with a best of 67.30. So, it took a second year Auto-X veteran, a total suspension re-do and a set of race tires to surpass a not-yet broken in, totally bone stock ZO6, with a novice Corvette driver, with just three total auto-x practice days under my belt. I'd say the ZO6 held its own just fine for me.
There was another ZO6 at the practice, an '01 running Hoosiers and Penske shocks, who took best time of the day with a 64 flat, a full 3.3 seconds better than the modded Coupe on race tires.
On the race day following, a Mazda '93 RX7 R2 took first in SS, followed by the only ZO6 running that day (same one as in practice) by just .8s on a 60 second course, who beat three other RX7's in the process, the closest a full 1.3s off the ZO6's time. Meanwhile another highly modified ASP M Coupe best was over .6s off the ZO6's time, and .5s off the ASP class winning '93 RX7.
That single ZO6 beat every RX7 time of the day, except one.
Oh yeah, of the 264 vehicles that ran, 12 of them were Corvettes. Only 14 vehicles ran faster than 60 seconds all day, 4 of them were Corvettes, 2 were Gokarts, 3 were RX7's, two of them modified. The ZO6 was even faster than one of the Gokarts! That left the remaining sub-60 second runs to a Formula Vee, a modified Datsun 510, a modified Camaro SS, a modified Datsun 260Z, and a hopped up and over-boosted Subaru WRX. Fastest valid time of the day was a '96 Corvette in B Prepared!
Now THAT is what I call real-live competition! :yesnod:
So a stock 10-year-old RX7 did beat the Z06...
I'd love to see him drive a more up-to-date piece of equipment. Say, maybe an '03 ZO6? :smash:
While I am not an advocate that Auto-X is anything more than great entertainment (and fun), I find it considerably more valid than street racing, which is exactly what the point of the post, which is completely relevant here. I have seen some really excellent driving at parking-lot races. More than I can say of any public highway contest.
As far as Pro results are concerned, with Pro drivers in Professionally prepared cars... I think you'll find that Chevrolet, and Corvettes, have been in the record books and win columns for some time as well (you might have to do a little digging.) That load of trivia and $2.49 will purchase a small Cafe' Latte at Starbucks, but it doesn't make the cars any faster or
quiicker.
