if you should choose to do the home link mod, make sure you take your time, and do not break the plastic hardware on the visor, I broke mine and now two little pieces that need to be replaced will cost me about 170 in repairs parts, you cannot buy the plastic alone I have to buy a new passenger side mirror ( shale ), and the bezel in black with a shale interior. Lets hope it works in the end. Not sure what i did wrong, but the visor did not come off easily.
It is easier to remove if you take the visor in both hands and rock it (left to right) as a first step, then insert the screw driver to act as a fulcrum in physically removing the unit.
If it is still 'tight' and stubborn, go back to the first step.
This mod is where you pry apart your sunvisor and install a 3-button homelink transmitter that allows you to program and then open/close garage doors, entrance gates, etc.
I think the OP doubled his cost because when he broke his OEM shale visor mirror/frame, he has to replace both visor mirror/frames with GM black as that's probably the only ones available. GM, for some obvious budget-related issue, is slowly discontinuing the manufacturing of many non-black OEM parts, i.e. speaker grills, door panels, etc.
There is also a vendor on the forum that provides the service for this mod as well. Not sure if their service comes with a warranty against this type of accidental damage.

Another option- if there is a junk yard (to be PC - 'salvage yard' ) close to you, visit it and look for a GM car that has the home link built into the sun visor, and said visor is compatible with the Corvette (if memory serves me the past generation Malibu was one that fit the bill).
Make sure the color is correct. Purchase - take it home. Install it.

resurecting this thread not because of the story but its the only one i could find that deals with a C5 and homelink...
maybe you can help my question. Yeah Im trying to program mine as well but it doesnt seem to work. I have the 3 buttons and car is a 98
i dont even get the LED to light up when i press buttons. Is there a second source of power or something? what I can i troubleshoot?
thanks
Check your power connections, if the led isn't coming on then your not getting power to it. I have to take mine apart as it quits working once in a while but if I squeeze the visor near where the wires go into the unit I can usually get it to work.
Maybe you have the wires backwards.
Make sure the visor lights work.
Don't put it back together until you get the red light to come on when you press the buttons.
Ask me how I know
