I have a stock 2000 C5 with 80K miles and was out cruising one sunny morning when a 2008 GTO pulled up along side and started showing off. Well, not to be outdone I gave him some show-off back. Mines red and his was yellow...so as the light turned green we slammed it and I pretty much had him thru third but then he just steadily pulled past me and there was nothing I could do. Talking about being humiliated!
So my question is, aside from the fact of never ever showing off in front of another GTO, how can I keep this from happening again? What engine mods can I do? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I would start with a cold air intake(doesn't really matter, i chose k&n), then toss your old intake manifold away for at least a Z06 intake(only $600). Then go get yourself a b&m short throw shifter, and a x-pipe from borla or corsa..(corsa's are on sale rite now i saw somewhere.) then get you a exhaust system, i personally did a corsa rear and borla xpipe sounds aaahhhhmmaaazzziiinn!!! anyway next step i'd get a predator and tune it...that should set you back about 2500 bucks...and up a realistic 35-45 rwhp 20-30rwtq
P.S. also if your expectin a race... run your tank around reserve... and NO FAT CHICKS in the car either.. a vette on a diet will certainly be faster!!! get a set of lightweight wheel & tires... the HUD windshields supposedly weigh less also..

no offense but for $2500 i would pick alot better mods than that for 45 hp and how many z06 intakes ya wanna buy for 600 each ?? they run around 300 each far as i know
Well, I hope I didn't offend anyone here (with my "street racing story" )on the forum but with all the information available here I was getting pretty confused as how best to customize my beast, and in reality I just wanted to know what the best ways available to do this was.
And now that I have an idea, I have to convince my wife that we "need" to buy those things. I thought it was going to be a problem and then when I told her, she surprised me and said "Oh thats not so bad".....I was floored so I got on the internet and started looking for some of the parts suggested. As the next few months progress I'll keep you up to date on the mods. Again, thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
Heads, cam, intake manifold, long tubes and a good tune. That will give you a good bit more power than a GTO. Then factor in the wieght difference and it wont even be close next time.
IBTL Obviously he was seriously modded and you're not. Just take it on the chin and either enjoy what you have or be prepared to spend thousands every time this happens...Just saying.
