Default side mirror glass removal

Hi Guys,
I want to pull the glass from both my side mirrors tomorrow to remove the mini-mirros that have been stuck onto them. Each mirror has one of those 1 1/2" round wide-view or whatever you want to call them mirrors - I just call them obnoxious.

Do the mirror glass panels just pull out (are they like others I've pulled that are mounted on plastic tabs that look like a wall molly)?

Thanks!!!!

I removed the mini mirrors on another car of mine by carefully pushing a safety razor between the mirrors around the edge of the mini mirror and it came off then I cleaned the rest of the stuff of the mirror with googone...worked for me...

I was going to try that but didn't want to fubar my paint if I slip. I'd feel safer pulling the glass out and doing it on a bench. Just being overly cautious I guess.

I understand...well then, that being said...move the mirror all the way left or right, put your fingers as far behind the mirror as you can and give a hard jerk and it should pop out so you can do it w/o scraping any paint...disclaimer: if you bruise your fingers tough chitt...

can anyone confirm that the mirror will pop out on the C5? It worked for me on my '95 (C4)golf club mirror

The book says:

Push in on 1 edge of the mirror face glass tilting the mirror case to allow finger access.

Grasp the glass case firmly and pull the case from the mirror body.

Disconnect the wire connectors from the case (heated mirror).

Remove the 2 jackscrews from the mirror glass case.

Bend the jackscrew over.

Press down on the side of the jackscrew popping the jackscrew from the mirror glass case.

Save the jackscrews for reinstallation to the mirror motor.

Dave...maybe I shouldn't either...don't want to get sued here on the forum...although I don't know about the outcome of any law suit if I give the advice in good faith......maybe we could get some good advice from "Prosecutor"...he is usually up to date on legal stuff
Too bad ET isn't here to step in...he would have the correct answer>>>>ochitt...Yello95 almost opens a can of bloody worms

Thanks, but I think I'll just be super-careful!

As DeeGee described. It a common mounting system throughout GM vehicles. I used those same instructions to do a friends Trail Blazar mirror.

Wasn't there a note about putting a little dielectric grease to ease installation? Seems like I remember reading that...

Yep...grease that baby up...its the taking out that is nerve racking so that the mirror doesn't crack...a quick jerk and it pops out

Be afraid........ very afraid! Mine popped off after a wall cabinet fell off the wall and hit the mirror. Not a good day but the damage was minimal. Anyway putting that sucker back together was a real PITA and the memory function has never worked correctly since. Seems there is a certain way you need to align the 3 pins that hold it but I am not going to mess with it any further. Maybe if you don't have the memory function the job is easier?

Default Done it !

I've replaced my driver's side mirror glass it was easy. Use this link and go to page 5: http://www.wheelskin.com/Merchant2/g...h/21001070.pdf

On page 5 you can see what and how to get the glass out. The hardest part is putting it back in... I was afraid to break it but it was easy once I figured out to push hard and wear gloves. Good luck!

Turns out the adhesive on the little mirros was hardly holding them on. They came off quite easily. Got lucky on that one
