Looking for a good comparison between bone stock '02-'04 Z06's that have been tuned VS bolt on cars with headers, intake, etc
If you do have aftermarket headers, please specify primary size as well. FWIW I will get the 1 7/8 ARH's if I do buy headers.
I might be moving back to CA and if I get a good idea what tuned cars are putting out I may just save my money and not buy long tube headers and avoid smog all together. I've already had a 478whp '98 Z28 would like to keep my '02 C5Z fairly stock.
'03 C5Z with B&B ceramic coated shorty headers (50 state legal), Callaway Honker (50 state legal), Shaner TB, Bassani X-pipe, 160* T-stat, and a dynotune from CMS (local tuner in So Cal).
390.1 rwhp
375.5 rwtq
You lose some tq by going with the shorties...but I just passed smog with flying colors a few weeks ago.
That's a loaded request as some will always think that someone's numbers are incorrect or they are fudged or something. I'll just say that everyones number's are a direct relationship to the dyno that they used. I've really been beat up for a post of my dyno numbers on another forum. Every mod adds HP, cams and heads add the most and HP has a direct relationship with the dollar. Anyway I have 429 HP.
Hmmm....my 2002 Z06 was dyno tuned by EnglandGreen.
Base run was 368RWHP, after tune 374RWHP.
My mods were limited to:
1) Magnaflow X-Pipe
2) Corsa Extreme Cat BAck
3) Home made K&N CAI
Believe most bone stock Z06's dyno about 358 RWHP before a tune. So my my guess is the improved exhaust ( maybe) and the CAI contributed to my higher base number.
My logic seems correct then. $1400 for headers isn't worth the gain if you plan to be stock. I do know that the headers are a base for all other mods.
Yea, most pull low 370 numbers with just aftermarket air intake and tune. Add Headers and most are low to mid 380s, some hit 390 (most with off road xpipe without cats.) So Headers in themselves on a bolt-on only car are only worth about 10-15hp. Add cam and aftermarket or ported heads and the headers become much more important.
376whp/370wtq with under 1k in mods
Blackwing Filter, Vararam Air duct, tr6s, tb coolant bypass, 160 tstat, borla stingers with x-pipe, and Tuned by Newtech on 91.
Texas Speed 1 3/4 headers and vararam. Clutch let go so maybe could have squeezed another couple hp out of it, but this is about what the average header/cold air car does.
Badd Ls6. You're the second one to back up those OBX #'s. I had the NX 150 kit on my Z28 and loved it. It dyno'd about 120 to the wheels with the 150 jets with a stalled A4.
The People that say the OBX are crap are the ones that spend the extra chedda on a high dollar set. Heck if I paid 1400 for a set of headers I'd be in the same boat......"OBX are JUNK"
