Default Leather Question

What's the best type of leather to use for covering interior panels? What do high end vehicles use?
I have some spare interior parts and wanted to experiment with leather.
I have made pattern in cloth and now I'm ready to try the real thing.

Not sure where they get it, but if you could ever find the same leather that a vendor like Vette Essentials uses, you'd be happy.

I know the use of Alcantra has become very popular lately.

1-800-828-2061 Hirsch Auto Parts.

1-800-342-7738 Garrett Leather

1-800-722-7272 Douglas Interior Products

708-409-9800 Keleen Leather

These 4 companies can provide you with about 1000 different colors and brands of leathers from their stock.
Hirsch Auto provides leather for car restorations. They can provide leathers custom matched to your cars paint color.

Douglas provides leather to the aircraft industry.

Keleen Leather is owned by a man who collects vintage Cadillacs and can provide leathers with a custom sheen on them.

Garrett Leather can also provide leathers with a gloss on them.

If the above companies can not give you what you want you are impossible to please.

It can't be that difficult. I just don't know the type and name used on this leathers or the different between good and bad. I would want something softf, but durable.
I'll give them a call and see if they have a web site with info on type/colors/pattern

I'd recommend finding a leather store in your area and go browse around and talk to the staff. I did a lot of custom leather work on my '68 Camaro that came out looking very nice and I knew nothing about upholstery work going into it. Tap the knowledge of the staff at one of these stores and just look and feel for what sparks your interest for you application. One tip that helps with the leather wrapping of interior surfaces is to add a thin layer of padding underneath the leather for a more plush look & feel.

Corinthian leather, of course!

Seriously, I would also call Vette Essentials and ask them what they recommend - they do some of the best leather work around for these cars.

Hopefully none will survive, but can you image it, the cordoba being a classic 50 years from now.

Had one & loved it. Also had a Mark IV, the length of a football field. Both fine cars in their element.
