This is my first oil change on my 99 Vert. So please don't give me the old "I'm Beating a Dead Horse!"
After almost two hours of reading post on which oil filter to buy...I was all set to get the K&N till I read a post about it hanging down 1/2 lower with that nut on the bottom, regardless I do not want the oil filter to be the low point of the engine.
Anyway...I think I've decided to just stick with the AC Delco and I'm a tad confused on the PF46...PF46E...and the UPF44.
I've read the UPF44 raises oil pressure etc. I've tried searching PF46E vs UPF44 and no results.
So is the PF46 still made? Should I just buy the PF46E?
My head is killing me over an oil filter selection. Ok time for a beer!
Can someone please make this decision less painful?
Which GM filter on a stock LS1 engine? (Going to be used with Mobil 1 5w30)
Bought a case of 6 GM filters (UPF44) from gene@gmpartshouse. This is a premium filter and it turns out that my GMC Yukon XL uses the same filter. So, all is well...
The AC Delco PF-44 has been superceded by the PF-46. They are identical, except the PF-44 was a 20 micron filter and the newer PF-46 is a 10 micron filter. If you go with Delco, you want a PF-46.
I had used the UPF-44 filter in the past, but I switched to the WIX or NAPA GOLD (same filter) to get more flow. My cold, start up oil pressure went up by 10-15 psi, and since the C5 oil pressure sensor is AFTER the filter, more pressure equals more flow. Wix are good flow and filtering filters.
Honestly does anyone believe that someone would manufacture a oil filter that wouldn't adequately filter auto engine oil ? As often as oil is changed in cars it shouldn't matter what filter you use.
