My Passenger Side Window started making a Horrible Grinding sound and only goes up about 1/2 way now...I was able to get the window all the way up but I was told that my Regulator needs to be replaced. The Shop wanted 375 for the regulator and replacement. I have no issues performing repairs myself so to save a few bucks I'm going to take it on myself.
I found a GM Replacement for $170, a used one for $100 and a Ebay one for $80.00. Are the Ebay ones reliable or should I go with a GM Replacement? Would you recommend Used or just pay the extra and go New?
I just went through this last month. My driver window was making a horrible grinding noise when rolling it down. I ordered an ebay regulator to give it a try since it was only $80 shipped. I thought it was junk. The fit and finish was not as good as OEM and the motor sounded like it was going to crap out when rolling the window up. I ended up disassembling the OEM regulator and found the cause of the grinding (it was one of the nylon cable guides that has broken off and was getting caught inside the motor assembly). I slid it out, superglued it in place and put the regulator back in and it's working great so far.
If you need a new regulator get the GM one. I know they fail pretty frequently but American junk is better than Chinese junk any day. Also, if you need a tutorial on replacing the regulator check out upanddownmainstreet.com. There is a helpful video on his site.

Thanks...I think I may pick up a used one with low mileage to save a few bucks.
If you scroll down to the pic that shows the central spool where the cable wraps around, you'll notice those light blue pieces of plastic. In mine, one of the had broken off and was rattling inside where the pulley is. All I had to do was slide it back where it is supposed to be and glued it in place. There was nothing else wrong with my regulator. Even if my fix only lasts a few months, it was worth it since it was free.
