Honestly though are the sodium valves even worth bragging about? I feel so dumb now, I had a so-called buddy sell me hand ported Ls1 heads, milled, and lS6 springs( I use to think daaammn)...now all I think about is...what a waste of money, same as this damn GM ASA cam with it
the GM ASA cam is a 20 year old design for ASA Stock Car racing. If you had a full build ASA LS6 engine you may feel different about that cam.

You have just saved me $650 As I have the 243 heads with the sodium exhaust valve on my LS1 that's a 2004 model and I had some tot saying he has the 241 Heads and he wants to sell them to me and because I never knew what I had YET I have the brains to research things before I do something like hand over money.
Your post it the most in depth and the best informed post on the Internet to date.
And I have looked at in excess of 150-200 posts on the same fact.
So I just wanted to say thank you very much for taking the time so long ago to put up this post that is still helping peoe today.
I'm from brisbane Australia and my car is a 2004 Vy Series 2 Hsv Ls1 Berlina that is HBD (Holden By Design) Enhanced.
Thanks again Mate.

I also would like to bump this thread as well. This thread answered in its entirety my question on which stock casting head I should upgrade my ls1 too. Fantastic information.

The 243 LS6 heads have a larger intake port, too. If all the 241/243/799 castings use the same size valves, the extra flow has to come from something different. I believe the 243/799 heads also have a straighter, better flow path than 241s do.

LPE Sez......
Thought I'd add that on the Lingenfelter website back in the day, they stated, and probably still do, that when sending in heads to be ported, LS6 head flow numbers will be higher than LS1 heads. They are different enough that you cannot overcome some of the 243 castings inherent engineered benefits......
