I just did my clutch job and I think I may have cracked a plug while the header was off. I didnt pull the plugs, and I dont know for sure.... but Im thinking I screwed up one of the plugs letting the header hit one of the plugs while doing the clutch. Would this cause a back fire through the exhaust?
Also, when I have the clutch in, just sitting, theres a noticeable whine sound.... All the parts are new, pilot, throw out brg, flywheel, disc & pressure plate. Pedal feels perfect, gear changes are excellent..... any idea why a breand new throw out brg might sing? No sound when the clutch is not pressed down.
I don't know, but I hope you don't have to go back and do it again. That job sucks.
Yea, this will be the third time!! The Monster Level 3 glazed up and made that stupid sound, so now I put in a Monster level 2. I hope I dont have to do it AGAIN!
Yes, a cracked plug could definitely cause a misfire and backfire out the exhaust.
As for the whine it may just be that the new TO bearing was a little tight and will loosen up as it breaks in. I would just keep an ear out and see if it gets louder or not before doing anything.

#7 plug was cracked.... stupid not taking them out!!! I replaced them all with a set of NGK TR55. Yea, on the clutch noise I was thinking that Ill just drive the car for a while and see if it goes away.

Glad you found the bad plug.
As for the clutch noise I am sure our Bullet system will make it go away....well cover it up!!!
I have a question, what kind of back fire are we talking about... I ask bc when Im above 2500 and let off the gas, i get a backfire... i just figured that was from no back pressure (I have headers, x pipe and GHL Bullets)

What you are experiencing is not a back fire from a misfire like 81c3 but unburnt fuel in the exhaust igniting due to valve overlap, cam timing, etc. This is completely normal just more noticeable with the less restrictive exhaust.
Sounds like maybe a Defective thro out bearing if it goes away with the clutch pushed in.... or got damged during install.. helped a friend replace his clutch/flywheel/bearings after he had pulled the motor and reinstalled it, one of the bearings didnt go on straight and smashed it on. had to have the bearing cut off it was so jacked up. Made a squeel when the clutch was out but not in.
Hope for the best but i have not heard a TOB squeel new or otherwise unless it was bad.
Well, Ive done several clutch jobs in my lifetime (like 50 or more) and I can remember 1 maybe 2 having defective parts. I drove the car around town today breaking the clutch disc in as prescribed by Monsters paperwork included with the kit. When I first started the car I heard the noise for maybe 10 seconds. After that, no noise for the rest of the day. The car is running beautifully and its so much more pleasurable to drive now than with the Level 3 making the racket it was. Not sure what exactly was going on, but it seems to have disappeared.
