Hey Folks:
For those of us stuck with a front plate, which looks better?
1. Clear insert to maintain profile, but the plate looks like its mounted behind a bubble
2. Body color insert with indentation for plate. Plate is exposed.
Body color insert with indentation for plate. Plate is exposed
Since you live in Illinois this would be the LEGAL CHOICE.
Even a clear cover over the plate is illegal. I got a ticket for a clear cover from the ELMHURST POLICE.

Many moons ago we elected to not run front plates (in TX it is the law to have them attached/visible).
About three years ago we elected to stop tempting fate and display them.
Approximately 2 days after attaching them to the area where the plate is displayed - we decided they detracted from the looks of the Vettes when viewed from the front.
Immediately ordered the 'retractable' units for the plates - would never, ever consider any other option (unless TX finally decides front plates are not required).
The local LEO's in Oregon are #%&@# holes and I have given up trying to sneak around with no plate. Mine is mounted as they want it, just because I don't want to give them the reason to pull me over. It's about $200 here.
I asked once what my chances were, and the guy looked me in the eye stating, I now know your car and I will pull you over every time I see it.
It's a cash cow for the state..
I don't like either option personally. The plate on the front totally kills the look of the Vette so I had to go with one of these since we are required by law to have a front plate in Ontario...
This is my solution. I bumped this cover and cracked it. I bought another clear one and left a bit more of it clear ( not painted) which still looks good and visually exposes more of the plate.
