Default finally did it !

Finally took the plunge today and changed plugs and wires purchased from GMparts house. on a scale of mechanical ability I would give my self maybe a 6. After pouring thru the search feature on this forum researching and printing info. I felt I was ready. Holy mackerel, what a project, started at 11:00 finished at 4:00. Just a few tips for others that want to tackle this:
1 - Don't try to save your wires. Even being careful I still pulled apart 2 wires, but didn't care becuse I had new ones.
2 - just because you get the dreaded #7 out does not make the others a cake walk. there are still are tight spaces on the remaining others to have to plull wires out or put plugs in.
3 - I read somewhere about the tip of using a small section of vacuum hose to remove the plugs once loose and more importantly to put back into hole locations without the fear of cross threading. excellent tip, it was almost as the plugs were guided into thier spots and then just turn the attached vacuum hose to tighten until it wont turn no more then ready for the ratchet tightning.
4- I am not sure about gloves, yes i know, i have the battle scars all over arms, hands and knuckles, but there is a lot that needs to "felt"
my hands are not that big but lets face it, there are some mighty tight places around those plugs. And yes I did remove the AIR hose assembly which made it easier but still a royal pain.
5- I did not have a good pair of plug pulling pliers and I think they would have helped, especially maybe if there was bend ar an angle to them, if that exists.
Best part was the end, turning the key and have it start. took out foir test drive and all is well. Good luck if you accept this mission, its not for the weak. Lol

Really? Took you that long?

Try swapping out the HEMI's 16 spark plugs. Talk about a nightmare.

Thanks for posting. Not all of us have experience and are comfortable under the hood. It DOES feel good to accomplish something like that. Good job.

I've changed mine a couple of times over the years and it usually takes me about 30 minutes to do them all plus blood...for the scrapes and etc.

Dang...I thought they were a piece of cake to change out, especially after working for a Dealership in the 80's. 30 minutes and your done!

Good tips and glad you got it done. I only found the #7 plug to be a bit of a problem. Nothing wrong with taking your time on the job though - better to do that than mess something up.

I'd like to watch someone change plugs and wires in 30 minutes. I just did mine today too, took me bout 1 1/2 hours total. I did get a couple of battle wounds too. Bought the car a couple weeks ago, trying to get all the general maintenance done before the end of the month.

Dang, you guys make me feel like the last kid running the laps around the track in PE. but thats ok i'm detirmined. i really think with a better plug puller I could have shaved off a couple of hours, still not in contention for you 1/2 hour guys, but slow and steady wins the race. I will be working on ways to make this job easier though, got a ciouple things in mind. Thanks for all your comments.

Yep, and checked the plug gap. I had trouble with 5&7. I used to pull the motor in my drag car in a hour& half.
