I remember as a youngster, dad would cringe when he hit a pot hole in NY. We left in 1971. Not so bad down here. Roads are wearing out though. municipalities ans state has no money to repair them. Glad your ok.
Man, I feel your pain. Roads are getting worse and worse as the days goes on. When I purchased my vette, the owner before me lower it. In Wyoming, there are two seasons, winter and road construction. Sometimes the roads become worse than before they started. In a nutshell, they repaired the road and it was so uneven, that I scraped every time I went home. So to avoid anymore damage, I took my car to the local tire shop and had my suspension restored to factory specifications. Needless to say, I found out I had already bent a rim. It is so frustrating because my entire town is like that. If I truly want to enjoy my vette, I have to take it out of town on the highway.
Municiple and State workers have been taking all the taxpayers money and foregoing any real road and bridge work. It's to the point where all the revenue is needed to employ all the government workers and no longer able to be used where it's meant to be.
Coming home from work the other night on a road I take all the time, 106 south in Jericho approching the LIE. Going over to the right lane to get on the highway and BANG, front drivers wheel hit dead center in a massive pothole. I thought for sure there was damage to the wheel or suspension, but the car was driving fine and there was no loss of tire pressure so I continued home. When I got home I looked at the wheel and there is a golfball size bubble coming out of the sidewall. I can't tell you how pissed I was since the tires ware about a year and a half old. I called Goodyear and was informed that the warranty was only good for a year, so tonight I have to bring it in to get a new front tire and be clipped for another 318.00 plus balancing and tax. I guess it could have been worse and consider myself lucky that the wheel was OK along with the suspension components and that I didn't have a complete blowout on the way home. However I can't shake the feeling like I got mugged due to the fact that it was the road maitenence at fault and nothing I did. I am however impressed at how well the car took such a hard shot and just shook it off, along with the Goodyears holding it together. I'm telling you I really hit the hole very very hard. Anyway watch out for the potholes, there out there!
Last week it was still probably full of snow. I have been in Florida for 22 years now and would still rather dodge a N.Y. pot hole over the grooved out roads down here. Good luck with the repair. If you ever need any body repair and hopefully you never will check out Bob and Freds Bethpage autobody on Broadway.
I called the NYS highway dept and reported the pothole and they forwarded me to the claims dept. They are sending me further instructions in the mail along with a form to fill out. I asked what usually happens and how much they compensate for damages and the lady wouldn't tell me anything, she just said wait till you get the form and there is a number on it for you to call if you have any questions. So I'll wait and update the post when I find out more. Thanks for all the good suggestions guys, I appreciate it!

WOW! I never heard this. I hit a pothole on the Belt Parkway last year that damn near turned my Acura around. After an alignment it still pulls to the left. I bet the frame is bent. I never knew you could sue a city and have a chance in hell of winning.
I never take the Corvette into the city. It's bad enough in New Jersey.

I didn't know that you could file a claim either, another forum member suggested it and I looked into it. they haven't done anything for me yet, but I'll let you know how it turns out.
Couple years back my wife hit a pothole and I reported it to the state
as soon as it happened. She hit it so hard that the seat airbags went off along with two rims two tires airbag modules and stuff came to 2500.000.She was the sixth car towed or repaired that day in the same spot.We had gone through our insurance and about a month later the state sent a check for the full bill, rental car and everything. It took a while but they took care of it.I know NYS had more money then but it went through their insurance so you might be ok.
gf bent 2 of my speedlines last year from hitting a pothole. Luckily the face of the wheel did not get damaged. I took them to a wheel repair shop, and they repaired the dents perfectly. I had to respray the barrels, but that wasn't a big deal at all. just used a rattle can and its good as new.
Although I am impressed by how quickly New York State got back to me regarding my claim, I am not at all suprised by the actual response. It seems that they won't be responsible for road conditions during Winter months. How convienient that they pass a law ensuring that they won't be responsible during the most likely time of the year that there would be potholes. I guess they wouldnt be reponsible if an overpass collapes on me if the bridge is over a year old either. How typical, you pay taxes for these things to be maintained and of corse there not and they even have a law to protect their incompetence. I thought I would share this with you guys as I'm sure I'm not alone in the pothole dept. So be extra careful out there with your Vettes, cause your on your own!
