Coming home from work the other night on a road I take all the time, 106 south in Jericho approching the LIE. Going over to the right lane to get on the highway and BANG, front drivers wheel hit dead center in a massive pothole. I thought for sure there was damage to the wheel or suspension, but the car was driving fine and there was no loss of tire pressure so I continued home. When I got home I looked at the wheel and there is a golfball size bubble coming out of the sidewall. I can't tell you how pissed I was since the tires ware about a year and a half old. I called Goodyear and was informed that the warranty was only good for a year, so tonight I have to bring it in to get a new front tire and be clipped for another 318.00 plus balancing and tax. I guess it could have been worse and consider myself lucky that the wheel was OK along with the suspension components and that I didn't have a complete blowout on the way home. However I can't shake the feeling like I got mugged due to the fact that it was the road maitenence at fault and nothing I did. I am however impressed at how well the car took such a hard shot and just shook it off, along with the Goodyears holding it together. I'm telling you I really hit the hole very very hard. Anyway watch out for the potholes, there out there!
Roads are getting worse all over the nation. Bad enough here in S. C., I really feel for you people up in the northern states. I've been on roads up there where you could destroy a C5 in ten miles of careless driving.
I feel your pain but like you said could have been worse, still plenty bad! I'm in NE Ohio and the long cold winter has been hard on the roads, lots of broken pavement and big holes!
Awhile back I scraped passenger side rocker panel on a big chunk of curb that had broken away. My insurance covered the repair. Was wondering if your insurance might cover the tire.
We can claim damage against the city up here if they have prior knowledge of the hole in the road and it has not been fixed. So, they get stuck with the bill of fixing the car.
What about either small claims court against the town or at least call and see if they'll settle with you
I was thinking the same thing. Tomorrow I'll call the Hwy dept and see what they say, I'm not holding my breath though. I'll let you know what they say.
I just hit one myself last week! Damn city workers had a backhoe blocking most of the road with the shovel way up in the air with branches hanging out everywhere. I tried to move over to the right to make sure none of the branches would fall and hit the vette and ran right into a pothole I hadn't seen. Scratched the hell out of the underside of the front passenger corner. Just ordered a Dr Colorcoat kit so guess I'll see how that works out this weekend.

Interstate 5 from L.A. to Sacramento, is falling apart. If you miss the potholes, you get jarred to death in the truck lane. Things are only going to get worse, due to the state being broke. When we took a trip around the USA in our RV last year, Interstate 80 through Illinois almost wrecked us, because the road was so bad.
Well I worked for 9 years in Manhatten and Long Island and I have to admit, Long island, if not the winner of potholes, it's damn near the top. But all roads are shot from Long Island to California. I hit a hell of one coming through Oyster bay off the Northern blvd. I though a hand granade had gone off under the car., I stopped and got out Just as the last of the air left the destroyed tire.
We here are so broke for funds, they call road work, "Patch & Pray. Not much you can do but make a mental note of the site of the trench !
You hit that hard...I'd bet the rim is bent also. Have them check it when they pull the tire.
This is one of the big reasons I put mine away for the winter and they don't come out till all the pot holes have been repaired.
Good luck with the repairs.

Just got back from Goodyear and got the new tire on and yep you guessed it, the inside of the rim is slightly bent. It's good to drive on for now but I'm dropping it off Monday and for 125.00 they have a repair service that will fix it to 100% true with a 24 hr turnaround time. so for one new Eagle F1, balance and wheel alignment they clipped me for 450.00. I guess I got off lucky that the shocks and suspension as well as the body didnt take any damage. So the grand total after the wheel fix will be 575.00. For one lousy pothole, I feel like I got held up and robbed.
