Today I went out into the garage and noticed a decent sized puddle of oil under the drivers side wheel. I crawled under the car and noticed a huge crack in the front cover. I've started the car about 4 times since I changed out the balancer & oil pump and never noticed it. I also didn't hear it snap or crack when tightening the cover bolts. I installed a meiling oil pump and it seemed to be a bit closer to the cover than I'd like. Any suggestions on a possible culprid. Are meiling pumps known to be tight against the cover ?

We just rebult our WS6 (LS1) and while installing the oil pump we found the cover didn't fit without doing some grinding, We ended up getting a new cover that fit and all is good, I know, Been there done that.

I've located a cover and I'm going to go pick it up now. Last night I got everything out but the balancer.. It's being a *****... Through the crack in the cover I can see the head of a bolt. Can't tell if its a oil pump bolt itself or a bolt that connects the oil pump to the motor. Only time will tell..

It was a melling pump and I got the new cover from Summit Racing made to have more clearance for the pump, Stock cover wouldn't work with the Melling HV pump.
To the OP, If it was me I wouldn't get a stock cover, you have to remove too much of the cover to fit. If your troubles are the same I had, It sounds like it is the same.

I just talked to my son and said he ended up getting rid of the Melling pump and going a SLP and everything fit, He also said to use the Milling pump you had to get a newer style cover and alter it or get the Quick Time cover (400 bucks.).
Hmmmmm. I got the cover off and all 4 oil pump bolts were loose. The bolt that cracked the cover backed out far enough to obviously crack and almost go through the cover. I just added some lock tight and gonna throw it back togther to see what happens. I got a cover for free so it just cost me my labor.

It's alive !!!!!!!! Again..... It's got 50lbs of oil pressure at idle but it won't stay running. It needs a tune with all of the recent mods. And I took the opportunity to install an aftermarket trans cooler in addition to the stock cooler. Whe I get some help I'll try to let her run for a little while to be sure its ready for the dyno..
