Default Unusual problems after dead battery

Had the car off the road for the winter while I did a few jobs like oil change and underbody clean up etc.
Anyway, even though I had a battery tender hooked up my AC Delco battery died. Not sure if the tender went down and took the battery with it, or vice versa.
I've replaced the battery and cleared a few codes but now I have some unusual probelms that don't really make sense.
1. I have a 'low oil level' (oil can) symbol displayed on the HUD, even though I've checked the dipstick level several times and know that I filled up with enough oil.
2. The fuel reading on the HUD reads more than the fuel gauge. The gauge seems to read correctly and moves down with usage, however the segments on the HUD are much more and seem to show more fuel when the car is at speed than when it is at idle.
I allowed the engine oil to completely drain overnight so I'm going to get the car up on the jack stands again and check the level switch.
The fuel reading on the HUD is a puzzle, surely the gauge and the HUD read from the same sender?
Anyone else had anything similar?

You know, my battery tender did the same thing too, it took a dive and almost took my new battery with it. Luckily I caught it in time, (probably didn't help the tender that I placed the positive and negative connecters on backwards for a second, yeah, I know bonehead move) I also noticed the "low oil" can symbol displayed on the HUD but no check oil light on the dash, or low oil on the dipstick. But I think my thick skull figured it out, (if I'm incorrect on this theory guys please feel free to correct me). Since the battery went dead, the HUD optional fuel level setting must have gone back to a factory default oil level monitor setting, the far right location on the HUD used to show the fuel pump symbol, and fuel tank level bar. But after the battery incident, the fuel pump symbol disappeared, because it turned into an oil level monitor, so right now, all your eyes and mind are focused on is the "low oil" can symbol, you need to look at the previous fuel level bar as an OIL level indicator now, don't believe me? You mentioned the "fuel" level rises at speed, actually its the oil pressure level raising and lowering the HUD oil pressure bar with the changing engine RPMs. The fuel gauge on the dash and the HUD old "fuel level bar" is going to read different because they are now different monitors, there's nothing wrong with your vette, you need to change the way you see and think about that "fuel level" bar and see it as an oil pressure bar. Hope this helps you out, it took me about a week of hair pulling to figure out why my fuel levels didn't match, because I was so focused on just the "low oil can" symbol that I didn't notice the fuel pump symbol was gone, and the HUD level indicator bar was now reading oil pressure.

OK everyone else admit it, anyone else been stimmyed by this default setting before they figured out what it was and how to reset the fuel level indicator on the HUD?

Now the next question that I'm sure is going to be asked, (because I asked it myself) how do you change fuel level indicator to display on the HUD from an oil pressure level?

Thanks SpanishRice, your answer is spot on.
I've reset the HUD to speed, rpm and fuel level and all is good again.

Soooooo, how did you reset the HUD to read fuel again? I still haven't changed mine back.

I followed the instructions in the handbook:
"There are five HUD selections that you can choose to view in the HUD. By pressing and holding the PAGE button you can scroll through these pages in the following order
Speed only
Speed and gauge
Speed, Tachometer and gauge
Speed and Tachometer
Tachometer only
When you have chosen the desired display release the PAGE button.
Gauges can be scrolled through by tapping the PAGE button (only when a gauge is displayed).
The gauges shown are the following
Oil pressure
Coolant temperature
Fuel level
The selections that you choose will remain in the HUD until they are changed"

Thanks again.

That is some good info, I just replaced my battery today and put the Vette in the backyard but didn't notice if things were different on the HUD. Now I will have to fire it up tomorrow and check it out...Thanks

your HUD is showing the oil level by default since it had no power. you just have to cycle through all the hud options until fuel is on there
