Default Difference between 1997-2000 and 2001-2004 headers

Hi, I was wondering why aftermarket headers (SLP for one) are listed for 1997-2000 and 2001-2004 C5's. If installed on a '01 C5 Z06 will 97-00 long tubes fit?

Thanks.

Smog pump injector tube location is different -

That can be adjusted too by cutting and lengthining the hose

Thanks,Matt

I thought it had to do with the injector pump(air pump) hook-up location?
I didn't know the ports were different.

If i remember, and someone correct me if im wrong, the early style heads had round exhaust ports and the later had a D shaped port. But i don't think they ever made headers that specifically matched the ports.

Is this an answer or a question?

I would love to hear more on this, this is new info to me - ohh actually pictures and head numbers would be better in order to support this claim.

Perhaps an article to elaborate on this statement or question

Thanks,Matt

The reason there is 2 listings is because of the location of the air pump.

Thanks for your replies folks. It's not just SLP, other header companies also list two applications. I will try to call someone up tomorrow to get to the bottom of it and see if the early headers can be used on later C5's.

It's because of the air pipe fittings are different on the 97 -99, 2000, 2001-2004.

They can be made to fit or blocked off.

This is correct. I have a system designed for 01+ on my 99. I just upgraded the air tube and all was good.

Yup, just like people before me said, the pickup location for the smog pump is different (located on a different tube). The options for a later C5 is to either remove the AIR system or move the pickup to the correct tube.

Thx.
