Default Shipping Tires

Hi,

I'm selling some tires I took off my Z06. I've had a couple of requests about how much shipping will run.

How can you enter dimensions for shipping estimates? Do you just take the diameter measurement for length\width and measurement of tire width for height?

Anyone recently shipped some that can give me some input.

Thanks,

Rick

I just called UPS and told them I was shipping tires and they told me what to do and how to measure and cost to certain zip codes. I used ground shipping.
Think of the tire in a box, lay tire flat on ground and measure height then measure width which is from one side to the other.
hope this helps

As Miguel1973 notes, you will need to find a box where the tire fits just right. Don't worry about the dimension of the tire... its the dimension of the box you put it in that counts AND the weight.

As a side note, when my CCW's were shipped to me, there was little padding because the tire itself makes a good absorbing cushion. Four separate boxes were used. As for the wheel face, one or two flat layers of bubble wrap and an extra layer of flat cardboard will be all you need. My wheels came with no problems.

I have shipped tires before and never used a box, I just shrinked wrapped the tires and labled them in a couple of spots.
Easy.

Same here, this is what I was expecting. I will take dimensions in the morning and then confirm on Monday with them when they are open.

Thanks,

Rick

It makes sense but how is the face of the rim protected from scratching?

Do it the way Mr. Bill says..that's how I've always shipped AND RECEIVED tires. From tirerack, ebay...where ever.
You could just use those thick zip tie things that hold tires together if you could find them somewhere.

I had one guy sent me tires with a TV uhaul box, you might want to go this route to protect the rims, I have also received tires without a box as many have said.

Yes, enter the diameter for L & W and H is the width of the tire. You need an estimate for weight, If you don't have a scale or access to one, a tire is around 30 lbs. maybe a little more. I agree if it is just tires, I roped them together, duct taped over the rope & zip tied over the tape. Plastic bag taped to a wheel for shipping label.

I think Fed Ex Ground was the least expensive to ship with.

tape one front tire to one rear tire.

Use good strapping tape. put 5 or 6 straps to hold the two tires together.

Put the label on a tire. Two packages of two tires each.

UPS or FEDEX ground.

two packages with two tires each is less expensive than 4 lighter packages of 1 tire each.

Does anyone remember what the cost was to ship four tires? I think Fedex was $107 which seems a little high.

Thanks,

Rick

No box needed and if you can get some shrink wrap so much the better.
Mine came over 2000 miles with no damage.

It should be pretty close but try UPS or a DHL if you can find one, I say close because that's about what i pay to ship 1 tire on ebay..25.00 or so, 40ish for 2 tires. This is always shipped to me from a business who probably has a business account with their carrier..
