Default Oil Drain Plug

I bought some things from one of the vendors and I decided to add in a new drain plug with my order with the little magnet on the end and change that out the next time I do an oil change. It came with a washer, looks like plastic or teflon (non metal). Question is my current plug didn't have a washer on it and when I changed it I put it back like it was, do I need this washer with this magnetic plug? Also anyone using these and are you finding anything at changes ? Thanks

If the vendor supplied a washer, I would have used it. It all depends on the finish level of the mating surface of the drain plug. If it leaks, change it. The magnetic plugs are definitely worthwhile. They will catch minute particles of metal and should be cleaned every change. Several folks on the forum have averted major engine disasters when finding rocker arm needle bearings, etc. attached to the magnet during a change.

I probably would have used the washer, but like was mentioned above, if it doesn't leak, don't worry about it for now and maybe add it when you do the next oil change.

Maybe wasn't clear, my current one does not have a washer (the one in use now without the magnet). When I change the oil the next time, I'll use the one with the magnet, and I will use the washer supplied, thanks all for the feedback. I guess any way to collect any metal floating around the better. Thanks again.

I got mine from Chevy and it had a rubber o-ring built into the face that comes in contact with the oil pan.

Are you running the engine plug only? I think I'm going to swap out all three plugs when I service the car next time. The gold-line plugs look pretty sturdy !
