Transport: Open vs Closed?
April. Covered transport is substantially more. Seems to me new vehicles are shipped open transport?
Obviously I don't want damages but what are your experiences with open transport?

Open will be fine 40flier and your correct. All new are transported by open. I haul Honda unless we hit a over run and damage is not dew to the open or closed. Its the driver. . In winter up north there might be some difference but this time of year your good to go with open.
Just wondering why you don't fly down and make it a memory driving it back? Even if your not use to long distance two day max and you'll spend that having it transported.
Good luck either way and make sure you post some photos.
If your unit is lower than 5 inchs thats when the closed rack becomes more important.
With the lowered ramp on the rear they can haul special units that are lower than 5 inches to the ground. Other than that, Juiced hit it right on the head. It will be dirty and if its over the hood you'll have bugs.. Racks run T for top and B for Bottom. Front to back.
Ask for B1 behind the cab and she'll almost look like she did when they picked her up.
The one place to really have the seller make "SURE" the driver signs for is under the front bumper. If your going to have damage on a vette is will be there.
Good luck.

intercity wouldnt even do it. same with passport for whatever reason.
All other quotes were too high.
Then i talked to Exotic Car Transport. Not only were they extremely cheap compared to most, they actually take care of the car for you. I had my car shipped from Georgia to my door in wisconsin. 875 bucks. ENCLOSED!!! They cannot be beat. Take a look at their website. www.exoticcartransport.com

We're on the receiving end of Soc Sec and have dodged the winter bullet for the last five months in SW Florida. I'm not quite sure about my wife negotiating an Avalanche 22 hours solo while I drove the Vette and I hate to see whats left of the roads up North after what were record snowfalls in parts of Michigan (Lansing) This car currently has one tiny chip on the front end... friendly Florida roads. I will get it paint shielded immediately. I'm waiting for a quote from Exotic and intercity.
Covered quotes so far:
Reliable Auto Transport (closed) $1289.00
vehicletransportusa.com $1233.00
Uncovered Northern Auto Transport who shipped this car for the previous owner is under $800 and we're negotiating pick up credits at their metro Detroit terminal. I can only guess that these prices are heavily fuel surcharged for the recent spike in prices?
When are you pulling your next load of Hondas from Florida?

(Personal owned Vehicles). Just this past week we blew the union out in Winston Salem NC and all I pull is Winston Rail head into NC and SC now. New units are railed to a drop yard and the stingers like I run are dispatched out of rail heads.
If I ran down there now it would be my pleasure to help you out.
For where your shipping 800 is a more than enough. POV's coast to coast right now are paying the carriers about 800 to 900 each. The rest goes in the brokers pocket and they try and make at least $150 dollars a unit.
Covered are more cause they can only haul 6 to 8 units where if they are small I can haul 11.
Your smart to shop around but if who ever you go with has a rack ride option always pick the top or right behind the cab. Most of the damage is done in the belly or bottom of the trailers on open. Funny its turned around and its top on the closed.
With two units you should be able to get 25 off each maybe to $775 but fuel is hurting everyone and we're back at the Round table,, (
) talking more green stuff now on single unit drops. Give you a idea I spend about $450/500 a day in fuel and stay out 3 weeks. Home 4 days but its tax time so we're peak right now.Greenville SC waiting for the dealership to open now.
Roads are fine up north. Understand your feelings totally/know what your thinking but just changed locations last week from Jessup MD and running Boston to southern VA for the last year so use to them up there and they are ok..
Myself I would stick with what you have. Your larger unit has to ride T2 or T5 up top on a open anyway but myself I'd want the vette behind the sleeper backwards as long as its a hard top. If its a rag top it "HAS" to be pointed forward and never on the bottom where something can leak on it so your assured on that one. Not sure which you have.
Very serious about looking "UNDER" that front bumper and making the driver sign for every scratch thats under there cause thats where vette ver stingers (open) run into problems and its the first ramps when they start their upwards move thats the most important. Just a little inside info...
Wishing you a safe and happy moved.

The guys at Intercity were great to talk with, but maybe they were just too busy at the time. Being they couldn't guarantee when they'd pick-up/deliver the car, I went with FedEX and had a great experience. The driver called us every day to update us on where he was at. It was awesome.

Cars arrived clean (other than a little dust) and damage free.

i had my car shipped from connecticut to south florida on an open rig and it went fine. when it reached to local yard, it was taken off the large truck, washed, put on a single car flatbed and brought right to my door. there are still some companies out there that believe in treating your car and you properly. (i didn't mention my cost because this was done a couple of years ago. i was simply trying to convey that an open carrier worked just fine in my opinion).
