steering wheel audio controls on a C5...ever been done?
its a ways off, but its on my list....has anyone ever seen steering wheel mounted audio controls in a C5? anyone know if its possible to fit a C6 steering wheel to a C5 (would have to get it customized with the right logo of course)
for some reason think this one isn't going to happen, but its something I've been thinking about.

I thought there was a thread or two here about a C6 steering wheel on the C5 - I don't think anyone had made it work yet (at least to my knowledge). As far as the audio controls, haven't seen that done either.

I was looking for a while with no luck so I made one myself. It was easier then I thought.

2023 C5 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
I've never seen an aftermarket wheel with built in controls. Getting the wiring in there would be a problem I suspect.
I bought the voice control kit (CD-VC1) for my AVIC (N1) X1R which comes with a wireless remote. I mounted the controller on the stering wheel with the clips that were provided but didn't like the look. It sits just inside the rim of the wheel. I also tried mounting it on a flexible "doo dah" next to the radio so I could position it where I needed. The mic fr the system is mounted on the mirror.
I have to say, I just didn't like it. The voice control has to be activated and isn't particularly intuitive. It often selected the wrong function. I thought the N1 didn't reconize my British accent but the X1R (Euro version) is just as bad.
Eventually I gave up on the remote. To be honest it was just as easy to reach for the touch screen and do it there. I can still use voice by activating via the touch screen.
Its fitted on a bracket that just slots under the console so I can fit it any time I want.
This is a close up of the mic and my gps antenna. It looks obvious here but from the seat, surprisingly, its almost invisible.
